| Members,
I am preparing a return for 2007 and 2008 for a client. The client was able to deduct state taxes on schedule A for his 2007 return. He is going to get a refund from the state. He will receive it this year (2009). The question I have now is that I am preparing the 2008 return and it shows the carry over state refund as taxable federal income, should this is taxable in 2008 or 2009? I am thinking 2009 since that is when the taxpayer will receive the refund. Thanks for any advice. | |
