Well, these spammers have outdone themselves at this point. Today, I got an above average Email spam from the FBI director himself which after some analysis was obviously an attempt to get personal banking information.

Though it was done pretty well, the giveaway was the use of UK English "the FBI has waded into the problem....". Waded? Far too flowery for our FBI.

Anyway, just a heads up.

There are certain types of businesses/entities that have policies against sending information to people via email unless an issue/case is already in progress. I imagine the FBI is one of those entities as well as the IRS, banks, etc.

I figured that if the FBI wanted to get in touch with me, they had their ways other than Email. However, I can't get over the moxy of these fraudsters.

Indubitably, my good man. When are we going to get a spell check around here? I'll admit I can't spell.

Use Firefox. It has a spell checker.

Add to my list Microsoft. I just received a phishing email from someone claiming to be Microsoft. Microsoft never sends emails about their updates.

I got one from Microsoft today also. Just deleted it, didn't look at it.

Microsoft only alerts you after they update your system, never before an update.

Also, the FBI won't send you an email requesting information. They will find you and personally ask you about the information.

Tom, I think that if you've received an email from Microsoft stating they've updated your system, then you've been phished as well. It's their policy not to send emails.

Actually, Natalie and I am sure you have seen this, I am referring to when Microsoft updates your system, you can click on the update icon to review the alert. It takes you to a Microsoft website that explains the update and it's a legitimate Microsoft website. It's not an e-mail at all.

As for the FBI, they definitely show up if they want information from you. That I do know.
