However, even if he is practicing medicine he is not engaged in the business of medicine. If he has no business, it would seem he has no deductible business expenses.}}

If the doctor is writing prescriptions for his family, I don't believe he can be called a non-practicing doctor. However, even if he is practicing medicine he is not engaged in the business of medicine. If he has no business, it would seem he has no deductible business expenses.
