My client's mother passed away this summer. Her only asset was her home. My client doesn't know yet if the home will be sold soon or if the home will be put in the names of her two children and sold some years down the road when the housing market is better. In either case, regardless of what happens to the house, I believe I need to advise him he to get an appraisal for the house as of the date of death. Is this correct?
