Taxpayer has custodial account for child. Minimal dividends, but for last year, had gross proceeds of (an investment firm that went under) stock of $4,000 with a cost basis of $59,849. The kid is three. There is nothing he can do but file the kid's return and the losses will carryfoward, right? Thanks for your insight!

the client is lucky it wasn't in grandma's account. At least the child has a chance of living long enough to use the capital loss carryforwards!!!
