| Today's Newsday reports that a local CPA was arrested for stealing $90,000. form a local bank via the use of tax anticipation loans using the names of former clients. | |

| Barbara - Where in New York (city - county -town) did this take place. If you like sensational reporting - go See the IRS - Office of Professional Responsibility and check out how many "Tax Practitioners" are disbarred, monthly from Practice before the IRS. | |

i heard on the radio drivin home the other night (at frickin 230am i might add lol).....a guy had robbed a convenience store. He had waited in the store killing time until it emptied out then robbed the clerk. How did he kill time........pretended to be applying for a job, was filling out a job application................yep you guessed it, lmao, put all his info on it and gave it to the clerk. When the cops showed up they asked did the clerk have any idea who did it......he handed them the job app........it was all the guys true info sad | |

| You should read the Texas State Board quarterly report. Thefts, embezzlement, robbery, felony charges. There are always a few who will steal, unfortunately they get the headlines. | |

| My favorite happened right here in South Texas. A CPA somehow got management authority over a widows assets. He "borrowed" $1,300,000 from one of the trusts to invest in a development project with a local developer. The developer bankrupted the project. The CPA's license was revoked and he went to prison. Dumb or dumber? I say take the money and run. | |

| My former assistant (he was a CPA) bounced around from job to job for a long time. One day I got an e-mail from a friend that he wanted a letter as a character reference. Seems he was down on his luck and robbed a bank.

| I think alot to due with it is "opportunity" breeds "temptation" breeds "theft". You see this alot in states where Real Estate Closings are required via attorneys - and the attorney accumulates millions in his/her escrow accounts. The temptation is so great they just steal it, sometimes small amounts then go for it all. | |
