Tim Doyle's Talk Page Archives

Hi Tim,

We met in 1999 in Dallas. For 10 years I have been writing some occasional articles on useful websites for tax professionals. I plan to write about Tax Almanac in a forthcoming article.

Please email me at will@willyancey.com for a private discussion about Tax Almanac. Let me know how I can reach you.

Will Yancey

Mr. TDoyle,

It looks like you are doing a great job moderating this board. You were born to do this great work.

Thanks!

Fred  :-)

thanks

Tim,

Thanks for the welcome message you left on my talk page. It happened within 30 seconds of me getting an account! Did you actually write that welcome message or was their an automatic script to write it when every new register signs up. I'm curious because I am a heavy contributor to a wiki called wikiHow at http://www.wikiHow.org and was wondering how you did that. I know how one can leave template message with the { and } but I wasn't aware that they could be created automatically upon user signup.

Thanks Tim. You guys have made some nice modifications to the wikimedia interface here. I'm impressed. I found the copyright / license terms confusing, but all the other things on the site are straight forward. Best of luck with this. --JackHerrick 16:50, 31 Aug 2005 (CDT)

Yup. We did skin it ourselves. We have done many modification to make it better suited to building a how-to manual. --JackHerrick 18:14, 31 Aug 2005 (CDT)

Anuenue

Hi Tim Thanks for the welcome. I admit I am having a bit of trouble figuring out how to get around but I have a feeling I'll come to love this site. Soon as I figure out this "maze" I'll add some history.

Yep, ya can't beat Hawaii. I was born and raised in Wahiawa, center of Oahu near Schofield Barracks. Wouldn't trade life here for anything!

Your knowledge sounds like just what I need to light a fire under ProSeries and get them to add the features us preparers would like to have. Mahalo, Anuenue (Rainbow)

"Ask & Answer" not working

I wish I had a quick and obvious answer to how to get the Q&A working better. I think my gut reaction is that a Wiki is simply not the best vehicle for interaction; a message board like the Quicken Forums might work better.

The whole idea, though, of a group of well-meaning but not necessarily expert people answering tax questions is problematic. Taxpayers can lose real money or even face audits by following bad advice. A few well-publicized wrong answers and your site's credibility tanks. Maybe answerers should be required to include citations of tax law and/or IRS/state regulations. For example, I've personally only answered 1 question, but I included a link to the relevant California Franchise Tax Board FAQ so people could see I wasn't just making up an answer :-) . - Rlw 11:18, 26 Oct 2005 (CDT)

I am leaving you a message - Mike D.

Tim, thank you for allowing me to become a member!

Tim,

I see you are busy on a Sunday morning, just like me! To reiterate the above topic - thank you! I sincerely appreciate a forum such as this - it is definitely needed in this ever changing world of taxation and accounting processes.

I have attempted to post my intro in the areas you have suggested, I just hope I have not overdone it! It seems I have posted to three different locations - the members will definitely know who Steve Brooks is!

Again, thank you for monitoring, processing, and just taking care of all of us on this website - I realize it can be a daunting task!

Questions answered

Hi Tim,

I posted a question regarding bonus depreciation and I am not sure how I know when it would be answered. Could you explain how it works?

Vandalism

Welcome to the wonderful world of wikis. I hope you don't end up having to revert all vandalism all by yourself. It never ends. IMHO, the only way to fight it is to enlist all the good guys to counter all the bad guys. - rlw (Talk) 21:31, 12 December 2005 (CST)

HTML & Wiki markup

Thanks for the reminder about Wiki markup. The thing is, I know HTML so much better, it's what I tend to use. I can never remember what two apostrophes do vs. three apostrophes in wiki markup, and the discussion pages don't allow preview.

Which brings up another suggestion; on a discussion page, above the Reply textarea, add the buttons which appear on normal wiki pages for markup (the ones showing B I Ab earth A, etc). Right now the discussion pages are pretty bare bones compared to ordinary wiki pages. - rlw (Talk) 10:51, 14 December 2005 (CST)

The formatting buttons would help me for sure. As a former usability guy, I'd venture to say they would help everyone by making formatting options visible and easy. - rlw (Talk) 11:34, 14 December 2005 (CST)

I suppose that the emails that I am receiving are discussion dialogue in reference to subjects that come up. I average from 10 -20 per day. I really don't want to receive these as I can check discussion pages to follow questions and answers.

Sidebar

I was just experimenting to see whether a personal sidebar would work. It didn't. I had the idea from my limited poking around Wikipedia that some of these features were user-customizable. I believe each MediaWiki instance can enable and disable such features individually in the PHP code. But I'm not an expert on this.

My goal was to add "Recent content changes" and "Recent discussion changes" to my sidebar, in case you were wondering. I've created these as links on my user page and was hoping I could sidebar them for my own convenience. --rlw (Talk) 16:36, 21 December 2005 (CST)

Feel free to delete my Sidebar page. I can't do it myself. --rlw (Talk) 16:37, 21 December 2005 (CST)

Thanks for the welcome

Thanks for the welcome. I have done a little browsing of topics and drilled into them. This is an interesting site and it has already been added to my favorites. I look forward to using it more as time goes on.

Discussion topic

I'd kinda like to promote this one: Discussion:Joint bank account, gift tax, and estate tax and see whether any one else jumps in. Thanks! -- rlw (Talk) 18:35, 9 January 2006 (CST)

Spam filter

Hello Tim.

Could you help me with a problem? I posted a reply to the discussion Discussion:Dependent not living with you. I then tried to make some corrections by editing the page. Instead I got the message that the edit was blocked by the spam filter, "probably because you tried to add a link to an external site". The only external link in that discussion was to the IRS site, and the spam filter blocked me even after I removed that link.

Thanks, MEJungman 11:25, 10 January 2006 (CST)

Thanks for figuring out the problem. My edits went through fine now. — MEJungman 15:19, 10 January 2006 (CST)

Removal of a discussion question

Today I submitted a question. I now realized that the premise behind it was faulty. I assumed a partnership terminated on the death of a 50% partner. But I have researched further and now realize that it only terminates on the sale or exchange of 50% or more of the partnership interests. And under Reg 1.108-1(b) a bequest is not treated as a sale or exchange.

There has been no discussion on my posting and since it is erroneous, I would like it removed. How can this be done?

jimcpa@meek.com

How do I correct my last name on the user list. I want it to be a capital "T" instead of lower case.

Bad Debt Deduction

Hi Tim, My name is Josefina and I own Taxes Simply Done. I have been preparing taxes for approximately 10 years and have been introduced to Tax Almanac just this past year. This is my first visit and I hope to make more.

My question is simple. I heard a tax preparer state in a discussion group meeting that personal loans given to other people in anticipation of repayment can be deducted 100% as a bad debt when it is not repaid. And the second comment was that items purchased in a "store" and used to hand out in a "convention table" is completely 100% deductible. I have read every book I have on these topics and nothing I read supports this information.

Is the tax preparer correct or is this person twisting the information to get more clients and bigger refunds?

Thanks for you help in this matter and I hope my relationship with Tax Almanac prospers. Josefina at Taxes Simply Done

Thanks for the welcome

Thank you so much - I am not on here frequently, but check in now and again. I actually do have a need that perhaps you can advise me on. Our AICPA committee is going to have 4 vacancies soon. How would you suggest I "solicit" applications?

Messages not posted

I worked up 2 very long responses to Blubby last night and another this morning and none registered after hitting save message. There were no error messages. However, perhaps some kind of time out error occured due to the amount of time it took to write them. It probably took me at least 8 or 9 minutes to write each one, so I suspect that may be the problem. Taxref.

Code & Regs

I must compliment you on the presentation of the Code and Regs on this site. It is the easiest of any sites to use. MUCH easier to read and search than www.legalbitstream.com or other free sites. Six Sigma is a good rule. I'm just learning about it. Why not add a six sigma blog relating to management of accounting and tax practices.

General Welcome

Thanks Tim for the welcome email. I will be checking and adding to discussions periodically.

Erased posts

Hi Tim, don't know if you're active today, but it appears that MEJungman for whatever reason (probably not nefarious!) erased two posts on the thread about HUD rental income. They weren't his posts! One was a response from the thread author clarifying what happened, and the second was from me futher answering and seeking more input from others. The history doesn't show what was erased... Thanks, Jeff JR1

FREDDIE

Hi Tim:

I am a first time user and, unfortunately, it is the last week of tax season. I just put a message up, actually a tax question, and I presume it goes out to everyone and someone who has the background and time will answer it. I intend to really investigate the Tax Almanac after tax season. I believe I submitted the question but am not sure.Italic text

participation

my 2 cents worth... participants should have to provide some basic background to log in and participate. If they want to just view in, that would be just fine. But getting alot of clutter from folks throwing out a question, then not responding. Totally fine to have tax beginners. But most forums require users to register with a name. That is a good idea.

Organizing the site.

Dear Tim,

I'd like to see the site have the discussion forums divided by category, and then searchable within each of those categories separately, to be able to see "just the latest" entries by date, etc. Often I just am looking for one specific subject, and have to weed thru a lot of discussion that doesn't relate.

quick link to code

This is the first time I have tried to navigate this site.

Perhaps I missed it, but if it would be possible to have a link to the code section that deals with any discussion questions, it would be helpful. At the least, some way to know what sections are involved so the user could get there through the code section of the website.

This would probably require someone to view all the inquiries coming in; that person would have to have a better memory for the code sections than I do - hence its usefulness.

user information

Thanks Tim.

So you were one of the programmers on the flow through programs. I am impressed. Even though I gripe about program shortcomings occasionally, I respect how difficult it must be to make the continual programming changes to keep up with tax law changes, form changes, etc, etc.

On my user info crusade: I recently got a question on NOL limitations under corporate ownership changes. ON my urging, the poster told that he was a business owner, owned the business with a large NOL. Not a tax professional. Well, this would have been a tremendious omitted data had I responded to the post thinking the poster was a CPA or tax pro. Totally changed my response. So yes, I am trying to force this in. Also, I feel that if I am going to spend some of my valuable time helping someone, they can at least identify themselves.

chit chat Hawaii

Hi Tim,

I saw the links you put in for the tax department and something else, but I'm not sure what you are referring to as far as the chit chat area. I also added other tax links.

How and where to add Template:GROWTH word to join the group? I am sorry that not so much verse in "High Tech" term!

Acronyms

Tim:

I added a bunch of tax acronyms to the page you created. Upon seeing so many entries with the acronym on one line and then the meaning on another line, I *unilaterally* decided to change the format. <G>. I left the "fun" acronyms alone so the difference could be easily seen.

I think it looks better, but I would like to see the meanings justified. (I just couldn't figure out how to do it.)

Obviously, if you think it should revert to the original format for readability or technical reasons *beyond my ken*, then please do so with the knowledge that I will not be personally harmed!

Credentials

Hey Tim, I don't know that there's other credentials worth noting, really. I started out in CPA world and then went to small biz and tax, and many CPA's don't know squat about taxes. So it's a bit unnerving to give them a credential implying something that may not be true. And I've met a ton of EA's around here this year that don't know an S corp fromm an LLC. Just a flinching item for me is all...I passed the accounting parts of the exam and left that world, so didn't finish it up. In Chicago, the ND degree means more than anything else anyway, fortunately, so it's never been a hindrance to getting business. And self designating something like Tax Pro or whatever...well, that's not objective, so who says?

So it's fine, thanks for listening.. Jeff

Solicitations

Tim:

I would like to get your thoughts on the propriety of answering solicitations. Personally, I do not think they should be part of this site. Please see the thread "Tax reporting of foreign owned subsidiary" as an example. (http://www.taxalmanac.org/index.php/Discussion:Tax_reporting_of_foreign_owned_subsidiary)

I do not believe the tax pros on the site should offer their services "publicly". The OP should be asked to provide contact information and then the communication can be done outside of this site.

I would like to know your thoughts or perhaps you may want to throw out the idea to the community.

Topics: Thank you!, Change my user name, & A Suggestion

Hi Tim,

First: I would like to say thank you to you for your wonderful effort and leadership in this wonderful infomative information group. I joined about a month ago & find it to be a great information & group dissussion on important tax issues and tax questions. My hats off to you!!

Second: I would like to change my user name to just Susan or Susan CF if Susan is not available. How do I go about this?

Third: I notice on questions and comments on your page there was a person who had taken a while to type a detailed question only to loose it before it actually was saved or posted. I myself had the same problem. My suggestion would be to use the Ctrl C bottons to copy what you have typed prior to hitting the "Save Your Reply" button. This way if one looses their sometimes time consuming question or answer they can easily paste it (paste Ctrl V).

Have a Super Day! Susan

Thanks Tim... Susan CF it is.

Thank you Tim Susan CF it is. One question: will I loose my profile information page as well. If so, I want to copy it so I don't have to retype it?

I'll wait for your answer on this question, then I'll respond so we are on the same page.

Have a good one, Susan

Real Estate Commissions

Client is a real estate broker. They are buying real estate as an investment for themself. If they forgo the commission due to them by adjusting the sales price down, they effectively wipe out the commission income and get no Form 1099. Can they do this legally and will this pass IRS security?

Search Engines and Other......

Hi Tim:

I have found Tax Almanac to be an excellent resource - just recently I asked a question regarding an ESOP and, while there was only one response, it was on point and just what I needed.

I have two quick questions for you:

1. Is there a way to "search" the Discussion Forums instead of browsing through each page?

2. I was also wondering if you know of any GAAP/GAAS/GAGAS Communities similar to your Tax Forum - frequenty I run into both sides of the equation as I deal with both tax returns and audits, review and compilations....? Would this be an appropriate question to ask people in the Discussion Forum?

In any event, thank you so much for providing this valuable resource to tax practitioners. I can be reached directly at Jeffchickering@msn.com as well as in the Tax Forum.

Sincerely,

Jeff Chickering

Fonts

Tim,

I have notice that some folks underline and or use bold type print when posting a message...can you clue me in on how to do that?

Readability of Code and Regs

Is it possible to format the text to make it easier to scan and read? Just making the sub-headings bold would be a help. See Cornell Law website for the Code, it is very easy to read.

Looking for Prior Post

Tim,

I want to find a previous discussion topic. I believe it showed up within the last week or two.

The discussion was whether or not an individual could capitalize RE taxes under 266 for their personal residence. Unfortunately, I can't find that topic...there were about, maybe, 10 or so posts in response. I did not post any reponse.

Can you help?

Thanks, Tim.

Found it!

Tim,

Thanks...it was the last discussion you posted.

Feedback

Tim,

This site is a tremendous help to me. I have and still do visit other sites, however. But, IMO, this site is head and shoulders above the rest. One of the things I like is that contributors freguently use IRC code and regs to back up positions and I think that is good practice.

I also find this site very even handed and level...and I like that.

Sometimes, I do have trouble navigating around but generally because I don't take the time to just browse...

I am not sure what you mean by content?

Anyway, please keep up the good work. I guess in an odd way, this site is now part of my ongoing learning and continuing education process. Thanks!

Re: Feedback

Tim,

There is nothing missing from TA. I visit other sites just to see what is happening there...I am not a participant on those sites, just lurking, I guess. In addition, sometimes if there is not much happening on TA I will go...

The other sites include Quickfinders and just recently the The Tax Book. Quickfinders is not as "technical" as TA is, IMO. Answers at QF are not of the same quality and generally don't provide backup (code sites, etc...) as TA.

Plus, Quickfinders and The Tax Book has some antagonists that hang out there which I find amusing to read their retorts. That is another reason I like TA because there are no "jerks" and no antagonists that I have seen. Maybe a few folks here disagree and rightly so, after all we talking about tax law, and maybe they don't care professionally for one or the other...but nevertheless, I still don't see them as antagonists disrupting the board, just spirited disagreements.

Tim, I've been on the site for about :20 minutes and have had to log in three times now. Why do I keep getting kicked off?

Follow-Up

Hi Tim:

Thanks for your response to a few of my queries regarding Tax Almanac and looking for a GAAP/Audit discussion forum.

I actually just sent a question looking for any communities in that area as you mentioned you wouldn't mind me asking.

If there's strong interest, I'd be most interested in helping you out to start something similar either within Tax Almanac or outside Tax Almanac.

It'll be interesting to read through folk's responses.

Take care,

Jeff

Tim,

Can you help me with this. I couldn't get the search feature to work. I typed in a known phrase from the discussion "New c corp with real estate investment". Nola999 said in the 4th entry "Never Never Never". When I typed this phrase in the search feature it still didn't find the discussion. Is ther something I didn't do correctly? Can you tell the site managers that the search feature didn't work here? Thanks for your help Tim.

Search question reply

Using the google search feature worked great Tim. It found it immediately. Thanks for your help and quick answer. Have a nice weekend.

Thank you.

Tom, thank you for saying hi.

logging off again

Hi Tim,

Okay, after about 10 minutes, I was automatically logged out. I had just finished reading the post about using organizers. The numbers wre 70.95.138.122.Natalie 16:29, 11 September 2006 (CDT)Natalie

logging off

It happened again. #70.95.138.122 Natalie 15:13, 13 September 2006 (CDT)natalie

Same thing 70.95.135.122. This time I was replying to the post about tax prep fees. I went to save it but couldn't. There was no message at the bottom that I needed to login. I guess that's because I was in the process of replying. Natalie 17:56, 13 September 2006 (CDT)Natalie

Now this is getting to be annoying. I lost my reply because I got logged off in the middle of a reply and then went to another page without copying my message. Number ws 70.95.138.122. I had been on the site for a while, so I don't know if that makes a difference. Natalie 20:43, 14 September 2006 (CDT)Natalie

How are they finding us

I am just curious as to how the taxpayers are locating this website and seeking answers to their questions from the tax professional community.

Tax Retun Reviewer/Preparer Needed for Tax Season

Tim, Were should I post an ad for tax season help wanted? Do you think a help wanted or help available section is needed on this site. I can post it as a regular discussion question if ok with you.

So far, so good

Haven't had a log off problem yet today, thanks. Will report in if I get booted off again...

New Format

Looks good, Tim. I like it. More on the page. Now, since you're asking about customizing....anything you can do to alter the time of the last post from x minutes or hours ago...to the more conventional board format of the actual day and time? Now, you kind of have to keep track of when you were last there to know where to start reviewing....assuming you've seen other boards, hoping that makes sense. Jeff JR1 16:54, 19 September 2006 (CDT)

Looks good

Tim, I like the format you've got now, I guess. The other time/date stamp was a bit cumbersome actually. So this is a little cleaner to look at...thanks for staying creative... JeffJR1 08:12, 20 September 2006 (CDT)

Going away again for a few weeks

Hey Tim;

Leaving for Maine on Sunday again for a few weeks...just wanted to let you know so I don't appear to be "gone" in cyberspace. Thanks for the site and all the words of wisdom and encouragement along the way!!

Accounting Discussion Forum

Hi Tim:

Just a quick personal note - I appreciate the accounting new discussion forum and your quick note to me regarding the set-up.

I posted a "high level" question about 5 hours ago - 8 Views (Probably 3 were me), 0 Responses....but I hope that more folks start surfing through there.

On another note, when I asked the general question in the Tax Dicussion Forum (recall, per an earlier note to me you said it would be okay) about whether folks were interested in an Accounting Discussion Forum, one person said try "Accountants World."

I signed into Accountants World and the Forum there was nothing as valuable as your tax forum. An "Account Rep" (some sales guy) called me to ask me about buying software, etc. I told him the only reason I joined was to see if there was a valuable discussion forum for accounting. I asked him if he knew about Tax Almanac - I told him about it and he checked it out - he had never heard of it.

In any event, I thought that I'd share this story with you because there is probably a large audience out there for the accounting forum as well that will eventually come to the Tax Almanac.

I'll be curious to see if I get any response to my question !!!!

Talk to you soon,

Jeff Chickering

Jeff Chickering

Hi Tim,

I was just curious about this note from Jeff. He said he had a high-level accounting post that no one had responded to. I was going to check it out. I do not see anything posted by him, however. Does he have a different user name? Natalie 18:27, 23 September 2006 (CDT)Natalie

Log In Issue

Today the 25th has been much worse than any since mid-last week. I have had to log in three or four times, once after clicking on a link to a case given by Dennis but the other times I do not understand. I just went out for 30 minutes and had to log in on coming back, though the Almanac screen was left on. Thanks for the concern. d

logging off update

Hi Tim,

I have not been on the site much since your tech people did the change. I'll let you know if it comes up again. Natalie 14:48, 29 September 2006 (CDT)Natalie

Discussion:Stock basis in privately held company.

Hi Tim

Actually, I was the one who changed the debit to credit and visa versa. I went back and reread what I wrote and realized that I had the entry backwards so I edited the post to correct it. I hope I did not cause any problems with this.

Thank you for giving me a heads up on this. Again, this is a really great message board. The value it provides to everyone is super!

unnecessary feedback

Tim,

I haven't added anything lately to the discussion forum, but still visit the site about 3 times a week. I read some posts today and I find it troubling that certain members feel it's necessary to question someone else's intelligence/credentials? I never understood this line of thinking. Please refer to today's post about "estate form 706". I'm not going to bad mouth anyone, you can figure it out. Let's keep the forum open for all tax questions, not just the perceived "smart" questions. It's real easy to hide behind one's computer and knock other individuals.

SALE OF PERSONAL RESIDENCE

Tim,

How about deleting the message to Tega1 - a horrific advertisement.

Thanks Tim for pointing that out - it was back and I just deleted it again. Michael

On-going Support of Pubs and Forms

Tim, will you be automatically updating the pubs and forms within the TaxAlmanac site ? Therefore, I won't need to goto the IRS.gov website or keep download copies of PDF files to my hard drive.

Thanks

Pubs and Forms Storage

Tim, I would prefer to access the Pubs and forms from one place. I do understand that TaxAlmanac contains links only and the actual html and pdf are at IRS.gov. As I stated, during the tax season, I usually keep a copies of certain "key" pubs and forms on my computer to have at hand. However, to free up storage and because I plan to be on TaxAlmanac, if you opt to store there, I won't download to my system.

Linking my Excel

Hi again:

I'm not quite sure how to link this into my comment section. Could you please explain?

Thanks!

Excel File

I have reviewed the file & it seems to be missing some of the information. I have changed the settings so that it all fits on one page. Am e-mailing you the new version now.

Topic not coming up on discussion forum

Tim,

I just started a new topic, but it is not showing on the discussion forum. I can find it under "my contributions" though. Did I screw up?

Lost article

Tim,

I was on the discussion forum page, and I clicked onto "Start New Article" on the left side of the page. Typed in my question, previewed it, then saved it. Thanks for finding it.

Discussion Categories

Hi Tim! Thanks for the automated response. I would like to see tabs for the discussion categories so I don't have to go back to enter into another, just click on a different tab or subcat on the left navigation panel...?

Tabs

Can you list out the different forums under the central heading "Discussion Forums"? Like an outline. Discussion Forums

*User Intros
*Tax
*Accounting, etc.

Then all you have to do is click on a tab or listing to go to that category. Right now, I have to back out of the current forum, go to the main forum page, then click on a different forum. It'd be nice & more efficient if users could just go straight from one to another. I'm not real adept at website programming & this is probably a lot more involved than just a simple command or two. Or maybe, my being new, I haven't yet discovered how to surf. Never said I was a California girl. This idea was just a knee-jerk reaction and I can live with the way things are as this site seems to have a lot to offer. Thanks for the interest! Roxie

Users' Talk Pages

Tim: How do I find a user's talk page? I typed in Trena's name in the search box, but, of course, nothing came up. Thanks, Peter C. Gatto, CPA 02:41, 1 November 2006 (CST)

Profiles

Hi Tim:

I clicked through one of the poster's profiles and saw this:

BEGIN QUOTE

Hello, my name is John Doe and I go by the nickname "???????". I must be fairly new here as I haven't yet entered my real information on this page to help others better judge who I am. I'll get to it eventually though, perhaps adding information such as whether I am a CPA, an EA, etc., where I practice, my areas of expertice, and also perhaps a little about me personally.

If you'd like to leave me a message, just select the discussion tab at the top of this page.

END QUOTE (I added the ?????s rather than using the poster's screen name.)

I thought, that is pretty considerate of the person, so I joined in the thread. I then clicked on a different user's profile in another thread and saw the exact same statement (except, of course, the screen name was different.)

Is this automatic now in TA? If so, it is misleading because there is no way for TA to know the intent of the person. If the person has a number of choices when signing up, and the above is one of them, then that is a good feature.

How to post tabular information

Tim:

I want to post the response below, but I cannot figure how to make the tables come out correctly.

Thanks,

Peter

Another thought. I am going to assume the corporation is 100% taxable in California and will have not only the $400K of pre-NOL income this year, but has "turned the corner" and will have $400K of income next year as well (after once again paying the owner his $200K salary).

If the corp pays the dividend, it "permanently" loses a $100,000 deduction and accelerates the utilization of $100,000 of the NOL.

So, if I have considered everything, the taxpayer will pay $23K more now, but pay over $44K less next year for an overall savings of over $21K net. (I know there is a PV calculation, but in all probablity the TP would have the money sitting in his savings account earning minimal interest.)

Thanks for the information. That is a good idea as it will save going out of the board to another site and then link it back to a discussion. This is surely a great board. Appreciate all your work and insight on making it more comprehensive.

name

Hi Tim

Thanks for noticing about the change.

I notice you use your last name. It is working fine for you, so I am comfortable with my user name.

Have a great week. David

Can you please help me Tim?

Hey Tim;

On the tips page, I put my son's email addy and his cell phone number for an almanac user....unfortunately I heard from my son today that since his email etc is out on the internet; he is being bombarded with spam at his office email. He has asked that I remove his cell phone number from the post as well as change his email to: hurbold@yahoo.com. He also asks that I post his name as William instead of Bill....

I tried to edit the post and I cannot; can you do this for me? It would be much appreciated :)

Sandysea

Thank you Tim (2) times

Hey Tim;

Thank you so much for taking care of that for me with my son's number, etc. Yes, he is sure that internet crawlers got his information; I did not realize how open that kind of information is; now I know and I will be more careful in the future...

That is great that I can upload pictures here...thank you for that as well!! It is nice to be able to share things with others and this is a great way...protects privacy etc and I will put some from my trips to Maine and Bahamas....thank you again!!

Sandy

Thanks for redirecting me.

Pictures

Sure Tim; I would like to see pics of other users here as well. To have perhaps an album of sorts would be great!! We share so much information here; it is nice to put a face to a name, or get a sense of what a personality is like from photos they share, pets, vacations, tax season nightmares, etc....

Dennis' talk page

Why is it there's no option to leave a message for Dennis? I was curious about the times/dates posted on this site. It's slightly after 1 a.m. in Hawaii, and one of Dennis' last posts was about six hours ago on Nov. 14. I guess that would put him on the East Coast about 2 a.m. on the 14th.

Clearing message page

Dear Tim,

I clear the page more as a matter of housekeeping, although sometimes because the questions show an embarrassing ignorance and I feel I'm doing a favor. I do answer some questions.

Best,

Dennis

Editing someone elses response

Mr. Tdoyle

First of all let me thank you for doing a great job for taxalmanac.

Today first time I noticed that you have left a message for me on September 29, 2006. I never knew that, there is some message waiting for me here. But I think there is a big misunderstanding here. I never tried to edit anybody's comment. I did not change any wording anywhere. I know, I can always reply with my own comment, insted of editing somebody elses. Please look into this matter again, and let me know. I love to participate in taxalmanac discussions, and I myself find answer to my questions here.

Plese don't feel bad or anything, but I want you to find out, what happend here.

Thank You Janak Patel

Mr Tdoyle Thank you for clarification. Janak
