You're not alone!

Yep, I believe that sorting the search results newest first (just a simple reversal of the current method) is the #1 TaxAlmanac Feedback comment received by Intuit. They say that it's not as easy as you'd think... But I will add your voice to the chorus of those of us hoping for improvements to how the search works, as there is strength in numbers.

I hate to be repetitive on the discussion posts (your post was a nice way of hearing "stop saying the same thing over and over again!"), but so many people assume that it's a best-fit algorithm like outside search engines, and out of habit, they start with the top of the list - and as a result they get old and possibly even outdated info.

California apportionment of service revenue

I went back to the original discussion and answered your question there so everyone can see it. KatieJ 00:48, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

National Tax Practice Institute

(representation education) will be held this year by the NAEA in Las Vegas this August 7-9 at the Mandalay Bay resort. They don't have this year's info posted yet, but it will be posted at http://www.naea.org/MemberPortal/Education/National+Tax+Practice+Institute/ soon (I just signed my contract to teach yesterday). In my opinion, it is VERY WORTHWHILE to attend if you want to do more represenation work. Kevinh5

Fire Dept

Night,

Shoot me your email address and I'll send you some info.

FYI - I'm not saying donating a house to a FD is a slam dunk deduction...I'm just saying Rolfs didn't get a fair shake. Granted, his facts weren't great, but a taxpayer shouldn't lose a case just because the facts aren't good. He should only lose the case if (1) the facts aren't good AND (2) when his facts are stacked up against the law, the law precludes the deduction.

And, more importantly, we as practitioners need to know how to advise clients that are thinking of consummating these transactions.

I am new and am not very good at working this thing. I will delete this thread.

Yes. I sent for the general info letter but thought I'd give it another try. I guess I should post on that thread and delete this to avoid repetition - huh?

TaxWise Online

I see you are a long-time TaxWise user. I've used the desktop version the last couple of years as an AARP TaxAide volunteer. This year we decided to use the online version at our largest San Diego site, and so far it is a DISASTER! I guess CCH bought it from UTS, or bought UTS, some time back. Are you using the online version this year, or doing something else? Just curious to know what commercial users are experiencing with the program. KatieJ 23:03, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

TaxWise

Thanks for your response, John. It came through both times! You can be glad you're not using TWO. I think maybe they have finally figured out what happened. Last spring, after the filing season, they installed an Oracle update, tested it, and it seemed to work fine. When Oracle issued a non-mandatory patch in the fall, they elected not to install it, I guess on the theory that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Then when the season started this week, all he** broke loose. The servers were going up and down every few minutes, driving us all crazy. We had frustrated clients (and you'd be surprised how many bring their kids <G>) waiting while we struggled with the software. According to an e-mail this morning, CCH, Oracle and IRS have been trying all week to fix it without success. Finally Oracle brought in an outside consultant who seems to have found and fixed the problem. At least, I haven't heard any screams from the site today. The online version simplifies a lot of things for us, and maybe within a week or two we won't be so sorry we switched to it <G>. KatieJ 01:37, 4 February 2012 (UTC)

Call

Hey John,

Thanks for replying.

Would you mind if we actually spoke and maybe over the phone you can help me make this click.

I get what your saying, but I want to just push this off my desk.

If you add an @aol.com to my screen name you can shoot me an email and I can then give you a shout at your convenience and I would owe you one.

Thanks in either case
