Hurricane Ike relief

When I posted this morning, I was not 100% sure myself that the hoped for provision is in the notice. I spent some time looking for something that would make me sure. Still havent't found it but am still hopeful. It looks like IRC 1400Q relates to retirement plan provisions. So maybe we need a linkage somewhere in the notice that will get us to 1400Q. I have to go to a class pretty soon but will keep trying otherwise. If you'd like to discuss, call me at 303-433-3247 or cell 303-667-6579, Mountain Time, though I'm not sure I can advance the cause any further at the moment.

Haven't dealt with anything like this since leaving IRS 4+ years ago. Various pronouncements that came out in my last few years at IRS provided relief in a number of retirement plan areas as a result of 9/11 and various storms. You had to refer to IRC 7508A to get a lot of the details. I'm not saying 7508A is necessarily relevant here. I'm just saying it's still unclear to me whether the relief from the 10% penalty will apply in this case. It seems it should, based on general principles regarding the way these things seem to work.

Just noticed - your taxQ was posted to acctg forum

Not sure if that was your intent - see Discussion:Limiting use of carried forward loss. If you want it moved to the tax forum, please add a post to the end of the discussion indicating that (the post will also serve to bump it back up to the top of the list, so when it's moved, people will see it.)
