Growing tax practice

Hello Rudolphacctg,

I have a very tiny practice in Northern California. Last tax season was my very first one by myself. I used to work for HR Block. I only had 15 clients, but that is just the start. I found out that the most efficient marketing was the word of mouth (referrals) and Craigslist.org. I paid to be included in search engines in the internet, I joined the local Chamber of Commerce, did yellow pages, but with no results whatsoever. So I decided that what I am going to do from now on is to prepare myself, study hard to become an EA (I have a CTEC practice now) and continue doing a good job for my existing clients and they will refer me to other people. My prices were low too, specially because I live in an expensive area, so I am planning on rising them up a little bit. Now is my turn to ask you something. I don't have an office, I work from home and go to my clients' houses to have the interviews and drop the returns. Do you think that people take you more seriously when you do have one?. I found that when I tell some of my potential clients that I will go to his/her home they don't go for it. What do you think? I tried to rent an office by the hour, but the ones in my town require year round commitment and I cannot afford that right now.

Growing a tax biz

Thank you for your input. I am going to consider the virtual office. There is one close to my home. The only thing is that I can not afford one yet. I'll have to increase the fees to be able to afford that, so maybe that will happen in a year or two. Lalva 11:53, 20 December 2006 (CST)

QB Presentation

Hello Regina,

I have a QuickBooks PowerPoint presentation. If you email me at jwilkinson@summabookkeeping.com, I can send it to you. You might also consider bringing free starter CDs for your presentation. I think you can order up to five from this link http://quickbooks.intuit.com/product/accounting-software/free-accounting-software.jhtml, but you may be able to get more if you let QuickBooks know your cause. Good luck on your presentation.

John
