Page not working
Rlw:
I read your comment on the Talk:Ask or Answer a Tax Question page and we agree with you. The Ask or Answer a Tax Question page is not the correct solution for TaxAlmanac community members to interact with each other. We are currently looking into solutions and will let you and the rest of the community know when we have something to replace that page. In the meantime, please let us know what features you'd like to see in such a replacement on the Discussion Forum page.
Thank you!
Tim Doyle, TaxAlmanac Moderator

Thank you!
Thank you so much for helping to revert some of these spam edits. We should have a solution in place shortly.
Thanks!

Just me
Well, right now it's just me... We've been evaluating some extensions which will allow tighter control, but they're not quite ready to put on the site yet unfortunately. We have a quick fix that will be going on hopefully first thing in the morning. Not only do I revert all vandalism, but I review each and every change to the site. Needless to say - I appreciate the help! It's also refreshing to find one of our users knows a bit about wikis!

User Erasing Content
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. This user had a user page and an introduction, and I noticed that he erased all of his own entries yesterday, which he can do. I'm more concerned about the erasing of pages tonight. I have rolled back all of those edits and will watch to see what happens next.
Thanks!
Tim
HTML in forums
I just saw your post int he forums where the HTML didn't come through properly. We had to convert some of the characters to HTML entities for security purposes, which is why your HTML was converted. I noticed that you were using the <em> tags for emphasis. Are you aware of the wiki-style markup? You can italicize a word or phrase by surrounding it with two apostrophes, like ''this'' which would produce this and you can bold a word or phrase by surrounding it with two apostrophes, like '''this''' which would produce this. Note that you must use two or three apostrophes ' and not the quotation marks for this. This markup style should work from within the forum.
Forum Reply Suggestions
We have the preview capability for forum replies on our list of enhancement requests, so hopefully that'll be coming soon if we don't run into implementation issues. As far as the edit buttons go, we actually have that capability now, but decided to turn them off for this initial implementation. We thought that they might confuse new users, but we could be wrong. You appear to have more wiki experience than many of the other users - do you think they'd help or hinder?
Thanks,
Tim
Watch this topic links
I added these links this morning, and although it works for most pages, the link apparently breaks when the page it is located on has special characters in the title, such as question marks, quotation marks, etc. I've removed it until we can figure out how to make it work for all pages. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

Sidebar
I saw that you added a user subpage titled sidebar and made a couple of changes there. Now you have my interest up - I don't believe that MediaWiki supports personal sidebars, though that has been a requested feature. I'm interested in hearing what you were trying to do here and if it worked.
Thanks!
Tim
Sidebar
I deleted your Sidebar page as requested. I did a little research last night to see if there was a way that you could add those links to your sidebar, but I was unable to locate antyhing that would work in TaxAlmanac's current configuration. I'll let you know if I come across anything.

Formatting
Did the formatting work as you expected? Any questions for me?
Could you leave that test discussion there? I think others might have fun looking at it and asking questions / learning.

List of Discussions
RLW:
That list is periodically updated manually by me, and is currently protected from user edits because it is displayed on the main page. This list of topics should be being automatically generated within the next week or so if all goes well with the testing of a new extension that I wrote. In the meantime, if there's an item that you'd like to have listed, let me know which and I can add it for you.
Tim
Done
I've added it to the top of the list.

List of Discussions
The list of recent discussions on the main page is now auto-generated and should always be up-to-date.

Net Operating Loss.
RLW, thanks for your response to my Q about LLC. I have posted a follow up Q. based on ur response. I would appreciate your input. Look for Net Operating Loss. Essentially, the taxpayer Invested in a 3 person LLC. The business went into bankruptcy and the tax payer lost $12000 of his investment. He did receive 2 $500 payments. He advises he will receive a k-1. My Q is can this loss be reported under the NOL rules and be carried forward, if necessary or is the loss subject to the $3000 loss per year rules? Also, since it appears that he was a limited partner is he exempt from reporting the 2 $500 payments as self employment income? Hspeck (talk)
Treasury Regulations
Rlw:
Thank you for noting that one of the Treasury Regulation pages needed some formatting corrections. We've discovered that this is not an uncommon problem, and we're looking at re-importing a fresh set to correct these issues.
Thank you!

All the information is still there, its just been moved. It should show up again after midnight tonight. I didnt think anyone would notice so fast. :)
I have been meaning to thank you for putting that information out there.
Good point about the FTB link. I think Tim added it back. I may try to add similar ones to some other state pages Stephen Wright 22:46, 20 February 2006 (CST)
Monsters...
I replied to your feedback post regarding your perception of monsters. I'm sorry you've felt squelched in the discussion forums and am wondering if we can work together to find another way for you to help to build TaxAlmanac. Read through my response and let me know, either here or at taxalmanac@intuit.com
Thanks,

Regulation Formatting
Hello:
I saw your message regarding the Treasury Regulation that needs to be reformatted. I am currently working on a script which will re-import all fo the regs and format them much better than the original version. I still have some remaining issues to work out before I can re-run it everywhere, but I have done so on the page that you mentioned (Treasury Regulations, Subchapter A, Sec. 1.213-1). I'd be interested to hear your feedback.
Thanks!
