Your recordkeeping question
Hi, you recently posted a question on the talk page of an article (content of your question copied below). Not too many people will see the question there, so I thought I'd give you some links to discussions on the topic in case you want to move your question over to one of them. Or you might find good leads for where to go for more info on your topic:
- Discussion:Sale of practice - DZCPA provides a link here that might be helpful
- Discussion:Client Notification - could be helpful if you haven't yet notified your clients
- Discussion:How long do you keep client's tax returns - record retention in general, but esp see Natalie's note about state law
- Discussion:Save client records -how long? - as a reminder to check Circular 230 and/or AICPA reqmts if applicable to you
- Discussion:TAXPREPARER RECORDKEEPING REQUIREMENTS - Crow points to a reg, some other cites, too
You may also want to take a look at Sec. 6103, and maybe Sec. 6011, and also keep in mind the special rules on retaining info regarding your due diligence on clients' EIC/EITC claims.
And, finally, there might be some good info in this discussion: Discussion:Sale_of_my_practice, or others on that topic.
Hope that's helpful.
