Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to TaxAlmanac! My name is Tim Doyle and I serve here in the role of TaxAlmanac Moderator. If you haven't done so already, you might want to review our Quick Start Guide to help you get oriented.

As you begin to interact on TaxAlmanac, your changes will be linked to this page, your personal user page. We encourage you to edit this page and add a short description about yourself. This will allow others to better understand your background and qualifications as they review any replies or information that you submit.

If you have tax-related questions, we encourage you to add them in our Tax Questions Discussion Forum. We also suggest that you introduce yourself to the other members of the TaxAlmanac community on the User Introduction Discussion Forum.

If you can think of anything we can do to make TaxAlmanac a more useful resource to you, please feel free to give us your feedback on the TaxAlmanac Feedback Discussion Forum.

I hope you enjoy being a member of the TaxAlmanac community! If you have any questions, see the help pages or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!

your question has been moved

Your question has been moved to the Discussion_Forum_-_Consumer_Questions Forum because it does not appear to comply with the rules established for the tax forum, which is intended for use by tax professionals only.

If you are not a tax professional, you will likely be advised to seek out a local tax professional who will have the opportunity to understand your entire business and/or tax situation and can provide both advice and follow-up. This is not simply a brush-off, it's because (a) simplistic answers to questions that are more complicated than you (or the tax professionals participating on this forum) may even realize can be more dangerous than helpful to you, and (b) the users on this site actually make their living helping people like you answer questions like yours, and are not always inclined to do the same thing for free.

You are, of course, welcome to use the yellow search box (upper left corner of screen) to look for info that might be helpful to you in better understanding the issues you face. And, once in a while, the tax professionals who come to this site to get and give advice to each other will also help out non-professionals, but often the situations that are presented are not the kind that can be answered in a quick post or two.

Your Jan3 question has been moved

For the same reasons Kevin posted above for the question you asked in December.

I do see that you've been posting to TaxAlmanac since 2007, and some of your older questions do appear to relate to tax clients (whereas the newer ones seem less so). If you are a tax professional, please complete your profile (user page) to provide some info about your experience level/background as a tax professional. Select edit at the top of that page, replace the boilerplate with your info, and then click Save page. Your level of experience may be an important consideration when users are developing an appropriate answer for your questions.

Once your profile has been updated, one of the moderators can move your question back to the professional tax forum if that’s appropriate.

Your March 4 questions (two so far) have also been moved

See explanations above.

Your July 2 question has been moved, too

Your question has been moved to the Consumer Questions Discussion Forum because it does not appear to comply with the guidelines established for TaxAlmanac and the tax forum, which are intended for use by tax professionals only.

If you are not a tax professional, please ask your question on the TurboTax website: www.Turbotax.com.

Beyond that, though, some users won’t respond at all if your profile hasn’t been updated, and as you’ve seen, having no profile leaves your question subject to being moved out of the professional tax forum. (Once your profile has been updated, one of the moderators can move your question back to the professional tax forum if that’s appropriate. Don't start a duplicate discussion, as it'll just have to be deleted.)
