Hello,

I'm glad I'm not the only one confused on the gift tax to spousal residents. My head is spinning from the "answers" you were given. You mentioned there ARE limits to the amount of tax-free transfers between resident spouses. Would you mind telling me them, please?

Also, in lieu of the marital deduction, since resident aliens aren't entitled to it, would the gift exclusion amount basically eliminate any estate tax on a spousal (both resident aliens) estate transfer of less than 1,000,000. dollars (actually around 600,000 dollars)? Isn't there a one-time exclusion amount that would cover this estate amount?

Did you receive an answer about how to report a business bad debt. I have a client with a similar situation. I use LaCerte but am new to TaxAlmanac discussion so I don't know how you respond to my inquiry. My email address is dstrong@rconnects.com. I am a California CPA previously residing in San Diego, now in Nevada.````
