H&R Block Course

Greetings-

Cwatt1, I hope you get this as I'm not sure how to do this!

Your situation is similar to mine. I too wanted to do tax returns when semi retired, and have done them for years for family and some friends.

The HR BLock course was indeed excellent. Covered all the basics of 1040, and more. The class was twice a week for about 3 months, 3 hours a class. Home work was suppose to be about the same, but most of us found it to be 5-6 hours per class.

Nonetheless, it was very good. It is widely acclaimed by even CPA'S and other tax professionals. That said, I also saw quickly that I did not want to work for HR, and still wanted some other experience.

I took a seasonal job with a major accounting firm (was hired instantly because of the HR class) and learned not only more about taxes, but learned a great deal about how I should operate my businesss, got a better idea what to charge, learned the value of networking, and some great tips on reveiwing, preparing and processing returns. I'd highly recommend that you try to find some part time work in prep. Many hire seasonal workers during the tax season, and are flexiable with hours.

Best of luck!
