Exculsion of Gain on Sale of Residence
CarlC: I have a very similar situation. Parents deed of gift to adult children while parents retain "life estate" (wording in deed). Again, this was done without consulting any real experts. they think they are preserving parents estate from falling into the hands of the nursing home/spend down rules. Now surviving parent selling to move closer to adult children. So who's responsible for excluding or paying gain on sale of house. Does it still qualify for exclusion?
