Moved your discussion to Business Growth Forum
Hi, your discussion was more of a practice management/business growth issue than an actual tax issue, so I've moved the discussion over to the appropriate forum.

Your SOL question was moved to the tax forum
Hi, at Taxcurmudgeon's suggestion, your question on extending the statute of limitations was moved over to the tax forum, rather than in the BG forum (you can see the whole story in the discussion itself!). You can still get to the discussion by going to the "my contributions" link at the top right of the screen.

Thank you
Hey,
I received your message, thank you very much.
Unfortunately, this was my first attempt and my first part. I will pick up part III before vacation. I will study for a couple months for Part II and plan to take it in October to give myself time to retake it if I fail. I don't want to get into the early next time period and end up having to restudy new law if I fail.
I used Phoenix and it was pretty good. I gotta admit though that the test was a good bit different....I mean you can only test the credit for the elderly so many ways but Phoenix had you doing more of the computations (across the board) but the actual test was more about intricate edges. I was sure I failed. I felt the questions were more like the CPA exam and less like the old EA exam I used to prep.....almost a case of survive the question. I felt that many were very vague leaving me wondering what the substantive facts were, let alone how to apply the tax law. When you can't tell if the cost basis they are giving you is the original purchase price or the actual basis on day of sale, how can you answer the question?
I tried the CPA exam and held credit on Audit and Law back before you could take one at a time. Then I had three relatives die two weeks before one of the next tries and my career shifted away from Accounting and into Information systems. I was just out of college and newly married so I just didn't have my head in it--plus the Governmental accounting was a nightmare. I finished a four year degree in just over three and a half years while working full time plus in a new career so I was burnt out. Lost my credit and since I wasn't in Accounting and I didn't have the experience covered, I could never be a CPA anyway so I stopped.
I began my side business (I am still employed full-time in IT so this is a part time gig) to help with finances to keep my wife home with the kids. I figured I would do bookkeeping with a little tax work thrown in. I have ZERO bookkeeping clients and my tax practice has taken off...go figure.
I don't know what, if anything, I will do with the EA once I get it. I may add representation but mainly I am doing it to get the CPA monkey off my back and head off the licensing which looks to be coming down the pike from the obomination administration. It will make dealing with the IRS a good bit simpler.
Michael
