I’m a CPA with three years of experience as a tax pro, mainly dealing with individual taxes, including sole props. Before that I worked in accounting and finance. I’m working on my own now, but of course I apprenticed with an experienced tax pro (an EA) when I first shifted into taxes – I don’t see how anyone could do this from scratch, with or without credentials. I learned so much, not just about tax rules and tax prep but also about client and practice management, and about how to do research, just from observing an experienced pro at work and asking questions in the slower times. Can’t imagine trying to get that same benefit from a website, no matter how great the community.

I’ve been reading the discussions here a long time, and now I’m finally joining to see if I can pay back some of the great info I’ve gotten here in the past.
