Hello. My name is Mark Schwartz. I am a partner in the CPA firm of Do It Right Now Business Services, PLLC. We are located in the tiny town of Maricopa, Arizona located just south of Phoenix. The town was the 88th city to be incorporated in the State of Arizona just over two years ago in October of 2003. Since then, we have grown from 1,800 farming families to a little over 24,000 people and is projected to hit 35,000 well before the end of 2006, that will make us the largest city in the county!

As the only CPA firm in town, we have a lot of responsibilities, from advising the city itself to helping its many businesses get started. Just three years ago, the town had few businesses, virtually no retail stores, and few professionals other than one lone insurance agent, a chiropractor, a visiting vet and one osteopath to attend to the town's medical needs. There was a small store that barely qualified as a grocery. We had an honest-to-goodness general store that sold everything from nick nacks and flowers to feed and tack and offered most services from U Haul rentals to UPS shipping, not to mention advice on how to care for livestock, pets and other animals and even a dry-cleaning service. We had one newspaper, a post office with just a couple of postal workers who had to close the office so they could take lunch. There was one bank, a couple of real estate agents who were looking forward to BIG things. Little did they know...

My story is not very interesting, but the tale of the town is one for the ages. As time goes on, I will tell some stories about what it feels like to hold the financial future of a town in one's hands. It is not my job, but rather everyone's and it is that cooperative spirit that makes what I do so rewarding and exciting. I look forward to hearing from fellow professionals, who have had this awesome experience.
