Process for the Ask or Answer a Tax Question Page
Process Problems Corrective Action
Questions Asked Members of the TaxAlmanac community submit tax-related questions on this page. Questions are added at an incorrect location on the page (i.e. above the introduction, in the middle of another question, etc.) Immediately move the question to the bottom of the page.
Questions are added to the user or talk page of the user who submitted the question. Do not delete them. Simply add a comment to the user's talk page with a recommendation that they move it to the 'Ask or Answer a Tax Question' page.
Questions are added to pages other than the Q&A page and other than the submitter's user or talk page. Delete the question where it was added, add a comment to the user's talk page with a recommendation that they move it to the 'Ask or Answer a Tax Question' page, and copy the question to this page as well (so the user can just copy & paste it, saving them time).
Other guidelines
  • Do not move articles on the page (confusing to members of the community, non value-added work).
  • Do not add extra horizontal lines between sections (non value-added work).
Responses Given Members of the TaxAlmanac community respond to questions with answers and further discussion around the subject. Responses are not posted within 4 days. Contact an appropriate resource to answer the question.
Responses are not indented from the question Indent responses with a colon ':' in front of paragraphs.
Other guidelines
  • Do not add colored boxes for responses on the page (too confusing for community members, not extensible for continued discussions).
Topic Sunsetted Once a question has been answered and a period of time (a week?) has elapsed since the last contribution, perform the following steps:
  • Create a new article page with an appropriate title. Keep in mind that the title should reflect the subject being discussed and not the question. Try to make the subject be generic rather than specific.
  • Use the information in the question and answer(s) as well as your own knowledge of the subject to write a few sentences about the subject on the main page of the new article.
  • Add the text {{Stub}} to the top of the article to indicate that this article needs further refinement.
  • Add any other category links ('Federal Articles', etc) to the bottom of the article, as appropriate.
  • Save the article
  • Copy and paste the full question and answer thread to the new page's discussion tab.
  • Replace the question and answer from the Ask or Answer a Tax Question page with a link to the new article using the {{See Article | article name}} template.
  • Post a message on the discussion page of the original submitter of the article and on the discussion pages of those users who replied to the question informing them of what was done and providing a link to the new article and discussion pages.
Links to created topic pages have been on the site for over a week Remove any links that have been on the page for a week or longer.
Other guidelines
  • Do not move questions & answers to their own topical article page until the question has been answered and a period of time (a week?) has elapsed since the last response. (Allows others to contribute to the discussion around the subject).
