Submit a Tax Question - Professional
From TaxAlmanac
Tax pros: please go through all four steps below.
Many questions get asked over and over. Please take a minute to search the archives to see if your topic has already been covered; if it has, you may end up finding the answer to your question before you even ask it. Or, if you need to clarify something you've read in order to apply it to your specific situation, you may be able to post your query at the end of the discussion you were reading rather than starting a new discussion.
- Search the discussions using the yellow search box to the left of every screen, or the box below:
Please SEARCH for similar topics before posting your question. Use simple terms like "real estate deposit" or "S corp salary". The search field is directly above and also to the left in a yellow box. If you don't find what you're looking for, change your search term slightly and try again, like "earnest money" or "corp payroll". Try using the search right now, to get a feel for how it works, e.g., discussions started recently will be toward the bottom of the results.

- Topical Index - articles and discussions which have been categorized by topic, e.g., the First-time homebuyer credit category.
There are few situations so unique that they’re not at least tangentially covered somewhere on TaxAlmanac by now. Reviewing the older discussions first will - at the very least - help you frame your question to get better, actionable responses.
Please check to make sure your user page has correct and current info about your background and level of experience as a tax pro by clicking here: Profile. Or, if you haven't already done so, please update the Profile page (user page) to include that info.
- Just go to your personal profile/user page, select edit at the top of the page, change the boilerplate to include your own information, and then click Save page. (You need to be signed in for the Profile link to work.)
Your level of experience may be an important consideration when users are developing an appropriate response to your questions, or when assessing the reliability of responses you provide to others. Beyond that, though, some users won’t respond at all if your profile hasn’t been updated, so providing the info before you ask a question may increase your chance of getting helpful responses. The first post in this discussion explains in detail how to edit/update your profile.
Questions may be moved out of the Tax Forum, and into the Consumer Forum, if they do not appear to have been asked by a tax pro (e.g., if profile has not yet been updated).
If you’re new here, please familiarize yourself with the appropriate use of TaxAlmanac, a free online tax research resource and community for tax professionals. If you've already done a search on your topic, and have therefore read many of the archived discussions, you've probably got a good feel for the typical style of the interaction here.
Good links for getting to know the site beyond that: Policies, Code of Conduct, FAQ, an Overview of TaxAlmanac, and last but by no means least, a very thorough and insightful description of the Purpose and Use of TaxAlmanac by one of the regular users, which includes even more helpful links.
You'll notice that several of those links discuss putting some information about yourself on your user page - if you haven't done that already, definitely get to it before you move on to step 4. You can review anyone's profile/user info just by clicking on their name in any post, and you can also review their edit history by clicking the word "edits" just to the right of their user name. It can be a good idea to check user profiles and/or edit histories if you're not yet familiar with the users who are responding to your post.
If you feel your question is appropriate here, and you are indeed a tax professional, YOU HAVE FILLED OUT YOUR PROFILE, AND YOU HAVE ALREADY SEARCHED, please follow one of these links to submit your question:
These three categories of questions all post to the Tax Forum.
If your question is about CPE, licensing, tax software, practice management, fees, business growth, and the like, post to the Business Growth forum rather than to the Tax Forum. Or if your question is not about a tax issue, post to the Chat forum instead.
