Georgia allows Educator Expense Deduction
Retroactively applicable to all taxable years beginning on or after January 1, 2004, Georgia has enacted legislation that allows the $250 deduction for educator expenses. An adjustment to Form 500, Page 1, line 12 and Form 500, Page 3, line 3 is no longer necessary. If the 2004 Georgia income tax return was previously filed and educator expenses were added as an adjustment to Georgia income, the taxpayer may file Form 500X to amend the return.Georgia HB 263, effective as of March 28th, 2005.
