Its an easily confused symbol, much like the word "is" has an ambiguous meaning. And I like Prince's music!

Please understand the possible origin of the symbol confusion: the '$' is used for both the NZD and the USD.

1 New Zealand dollar = 0.6783 U.S. dollars

and imagine his getting a letter from the Inland Revenue Department, instead of the Internal Revenue Service.
