A quick and superficial survey conducted by using the Yellow Box of Search [of course] shows that the name of the Irish beer, Guinness, has been misspelled thirteen times here on TaxAlmanac, while it has been spelled correctly only eleven times.

Does this reflect most poorly on...
spelling by the Irish,
spelling by beer drinkers, or
spelling by tax professionals?

For sure, it reflects very poorly on spelling by drunk Irish tax professionals; that wasn't the question, however.

[Disclosure: In a couple of instances, it is the name "Guinness World Records" that has been misspelled here, rather than the name of the beer.]

Final question: Doesn't this establish, absolutely, finally, and once and for all, that *Guinness* is the most often misspelled beer name in the world?

Redemption: Please note that by spelling "Guinness" correctly *four times*, this post has put the correct spellers out in front of the incorrect spellers, 15-13...

I sure missed this place. A survey - spelling of a popular beer name, Guinness (now the correct spelling count is 16).

But get this: "Guiness" - as *misspelled* on its own Facebook page - has over 87,000 likes.

Be careful about the Irish. We are known for two things: drinking and fighting!
