I'd like to suggest that TaxAlmanac create a separate forum for State Tax questions. How many times do you open an item only to discover the issue pertains to a particular State rather than Federal Taxes. A separate area to place State questions would eliminate much wasted time during our most hectic season.
Anyone agree with that? Yes or No? |

Occasionally I open a thread that seems to be a federal question but turns out to have state implications that the original poster hadn't considered.
I always look at the "All Topics" forum anyway, so if TA made a separate state tax forum I'd still see all the questions. So it really doesn't matter to me. |

I also would think that a question that applies to GA might also apply to MA or NC. 1031s across state lines, for instance. If I were only looking for a NC answer, I might miss the answer posted to the GA question.
Now CA I could imagine having its own forum. The answers are always 'except in CA, because they have their own rules'. I do understand why tax returns cost so much to have prepared in CA. You have to learn a whole slew of rules that don't agree with anyone else's. I envy the fees you get to charge there. Fee envy. |
