I find the search box very "taxing". I suggest that since you are combining posts of a similar nature together perhaps posts for questions that come up every year could be either reposted the first time the same question is asked or somehow automatically linked to the prior post on the subject. One that comes to mind is the question about donations of houses to the fire department. Perhaps posting the link within the original postings that answers the question.

I also would like to see the Hawaii posting on Police Self-Employment Exempt? reposted to the main tax questions site.

I don't know how you would go about this but it could be useful.....yeah....like you don't have enough to do already, huh!

I'm not sure I understand your suggestion. Are you saying that someone should provide a link to related discussions any time a "regularly asked question" gets posted? (I wish there were a way to do that automatically, but sadly, there doesn't seem to be.)

With regard to combining posts of a similar nature: I have been combining discussions when they are from the same OP on the same topic. The reasons for that are summarized in FAQ #21. Non-pro questions also sometimes get added to the end of ConsQ discussions on a similar topic. But otherwise, there's not really any intent to do wide-scale combining of posts.

On the other hand, we have been trying to gather highlights of certain hot-topic areas into the relevant category pages (click "Category" at the bottom of this page, and then 500 views, to see the category list). You can see examples of what I'm talking about here: Category:Foreclosures, Category: 1099-MISC. Everybody's welcome to help with that effort, from adding categories to discussions to updating category pages with extra relevant info. The hottest of these hot topics are listed on one of the pages people see before they ask a new tax question, with links to the category pages.

On your other issue, the discussion you referenced above is already on the main tax questions forum. If there's another one that also should be there, please provide a link. Thanks.

Anyway, if you could clarify your suggestion, others may be more able to respond; I'll check back later, too.
