First, thanks to everyone for being encouraging about this - I really appreciate that.

I figured I would start a new thread since this thing is alive now. It would be awesome if as many people here as possible would simply register at the new forum.

Note that as one of the security measures, your very first post will be held in a moderation queue until one of the site moderators approves it; from that point forward you will be able to post freely.

Thanks Chris. I am hoping that Intuit will allow you access to our discussion history for posterity purposes. I am signing up for your site.

Chris I just tried to go to the new site and it wants me to log in, but it doesn't seem to have a sign in place. I get an error message. Any suggestions?

Action - see Chris's instructions above - it all works.

Well, when in doubt, read the instructions! Duh! It worked just fine. Thanks, Chris.

I'm in, too. And the site looks great - Chris, I am so impressed. Now for convincing the PTB's at Intuit to allow the migration of all the discussions from here (particularly the *stale dated checks* thread ;-)

Thanks Chris! Just registered and the site looks great. It also looks like it will have much more "forum" functionality and settings that this site doesn't have. Much appreciated.

Thanks Chris! I was really really really hoping for a forum on phpBB or similar technology. I think everyone will appreciate the improved speed and functionality. Thanks for all you've done so far to make this happen.

It appears to be a standard bulletin board site used by many fan clubs ( I go to Jetsinsider.com).

Possibly consider a VIP membership which shows members who pay a fee of say $50 a year or so to cover costs.

If you need any help...just ask. Financial or otherwise. This site has been an invaluable tool for many of us. Heck..I even had lunch with FsteinCPA in beautiful upstate NY, breakfast with CKenefick, had Hawaiian coffee and Rhino balls courtesy of Actionbiz. All of whom I would have never known without this site.

Yep, I've met Marcilio (at my son's funeral...), Anchorman is on the list, and Taocpa a couple years back. I will track down Kevin one day and have a scotch together.

Thanks for the feedback guys, and you are very welcome; glad to help with some sort of alternative for when the June 1st date arrives.

No noteworthy news yet from Intuit on the old content. Still a hope that they will simply archive it for read-only. I am still in touch with Tim Doyle but don't have anything to report on this point as of now. He understands the importance of this.

In the event that they do not archive it, I have a tested set of routines to easily do it myself. I just don't want to do that unless given the go-ahead from Intuit. But trust me on this -- I know how to do it and I know it works. Just need to know if/when it would be required (!)

Or we can just use these other sites to retrieve past TA discussions:

Thanks, Chris for your work on the new website. I'm impressed at how well it works (and unlike TaxAlmanac, it's quick). I think I've posted my last message here.

The DF stamp of approval. I pretty much think it is unanimous. Now, the only question is whether we will be able to archive this site <possibly already answered> or whether Dave and Chris and Harry will have to recreate all the homework assignments and the unusual bar client questions that have gone before.

Well done in the transition.

Chris, thank you so much for setting it up. If Dave Fogel is not coming back to TA, neither am I! :-)

One question, will we be able to change the location? I am thinking if we move we should be able to update it, also the credentials and associations. Can this be done now?

Thank you again, Chris.

Never mind! I found the answer in the FAQ.

Chris, the new site is very nice.

Thanks guys for the kind words and support. Very much appreciate that. Of course this will remain free, no subscription, no donations. I do thank you for those offers. Enjoy the new site - I am very glad it appears that the crew will stay together.

Hope to see everyone at http://www.taxprotalk.com/forums/ by the time this Taxalmanac site shuts down, in a couple of weeks (!)

Thank you for the invitation to the new website, Chris! I've been a little out of the loop lately (see Chat for the main reason why) and really appreciate the personal note about the change. I've registered.

Thank you to everyone on here who's offered help! There so many great memories here (fast elephants, dead kittens, Girl Scout cookies and the multiple personalities). I hope you're successful in keeping an archive of the postings here.
