We all see them, we all sometimes get confused and think, why are they drudging this up from 2 years ago. We sometimes miss that the very last post isn't a response to the old thread, but a new question that is trying to piggyback the old thread.

Sometimes we are using the yellow box and come across a thread that maybe, kinda, sorta has the answer to our question, but we need more clarification, or it's a slightly different but similar question.

What should we do?

Should we add our question on at the end?

or

Should we start a new question and maybe provide a link to the previous threads that provided some of the answers, but not all?

I've been adding my questions to older discussions. When I started discussions, I was given a link to older ones, so now I resurrect older discussions.

I've noticed that someone has been cleaning up 'duplicates' by merging discussions.

The answer is the old "it depends." You might notice that Trillium has been changing the font on the dates when old discussions are brought up again. I've learned to look for that.

Sue Smith died. Joe Blow is the personal representative. Does Joe sign the 1040 "Sue Smith, by Joe Blow, personal representative" or just "Joe Blow, personal representative", or something else? Form instructions are clear for a parent signing for a child but not for signatures by personal representative.

Thank you...

Hi, Jessica - not sure if you were trying to "test out" the date-changing feature that Natalie mentioned, or actually asking that question here, so, in case it's the latter: See Decedents, which links to Tax Topic 356 (sign as PR).

Trillium, the latter, thanks for the direction.

hey, the thread was about 'dead threads', so I see no problem with Jessica's add-on about a dead taxpayer. That's a 'dead' topic too....
