My bet is Chris or Len. Or maybe Fred.

Most likely to NOT be: Al Bundy, Bob the Mob, Crow. BTW, whatever happened to Crow? He all of a sudden stopped posting.

It would only be right if it was Tim...and its gotta include some juicy, inside information about those who put TA to death. It will be read by 1 person, and then poof!

For the sake of sakeness, can anybody post a link here to the very first Tax Discussion post on TA? I tried sorting by the far right column, but that did not work.

I've only been here since July 2006, off and on, as TaxStudent and as me. Looks like the first posts may date to May 2005. Doing a google search for individual pages using the following terms site:taxalmanac.org and "1 may 2005" etc. might help.

With my luck, the last post to this forum will have a spelling mistake in it, and I won't be able to get in to fix it!

I'm looking forward to the time off...

I will not be the one to say the last word so as not to rob SC of any chance he may have to correct an error.

Thought for the Day (I save these up for my Sunday school students):

"Tradition and progress are two great enemies of the human race."

Paul Valery

That is a true saying if I every heard one and worth remembering.

I want to say a few words today on MERS and keeping camels and wife trouble, in other words my usual themes. First, MERS has hit Florida and that is too close for comfort so I'm leaving Dodge for a while until this epidemic blows over. Even though I am not a Musselman I've had my wife wear a scarf over her head for several years now anyway, so I figure that this puts me at an extra risk for the disease, even though I must say that my wife looks a whole lot better with scarf than without. Yes, I even make her wear it inside the house. Now here is the real kicker and besides my other risk factors (geographic proximity to Florida, be-scarf-fed wife) I own a camel. I think everyone should own one. I got this idea from one of my old philosophy professors, Paul Kuntz, who had us read George Perkins Marsh's classic book, "The Camel". It made quite an impression on me then, and even though we all thought that Kuntz was a little crazy, I can see that some of that has rubbed off on me too. Stay safe and report any strange symptoms here.

I believe this may be the oldest post still accessible without going into the archives:

http://www.taxalmanac.org/index.php/Discussion:Archived_Tax_Questions

I'd vote for Tim, Kevin, or Trillium to be the one to sign us off. If anyone is around and able to do so, a screen shot of that last post would be kinda cool to post over at our new hang-out.

Thanks, Belle.

I think this one was the first one: http://www.taxalmanac.org/index.php?title=Ask_or_Answer_a_Tax_Question_Archive&diff=next&oldid=228

From: Mrainwater

Time/date: 07:02, 28 Apr 2005 (CDT)

Question: What are the rules for a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization to have a "tax free" day for sales tax in the state of Texas? I was told organizations could get 1 day (they pick) but then there are some special circumstances (when you are starting up) that may allow an organization to get 2 days. I'm not sure if the timing of the organization start has something to do with it.

Sorry, I have had to attend my CME: Continuing Ministerial Education, classes (not much has changed. Still the same old Bible). And I've also had to pay up on a promise I made some months ago to buy one of my girlfriends who works in the Publix Deli a new set of false teeth (so much for promises made in the heat of passion).

You young men out there listen up and don't make too many promises to the fairer sex when you're captured in the throes of passionate love.

What this boils down to is that I've been "hard pressed" as the saying goes, and not in my usual voluble mood, primed and ready to leave a few comments.

The great Gadzooks will never go away. I envision he will give admonishings and ministerial derring dos here long after the site has gone blank.

Do you wonder what time it is going to come down? Will it be 00:01 GMT? Which would be 7:01 pm CST DS. If it is 12:01 am any US time zones ... afraid I won't be awake! I will have to check first thing in the morning.

Belle (talk|edits) said:

I would guess midnite CST DS....if only because that is where Intuit is located. I 'think' Texas is In Central time zone?

Coddington (talk|edits) said:

1 June 2014
Texas is in the Central Time Zone, which means if it goes dark at midnight central time, it will be at 5:00 AM GMT (due to daylight savings).

Actionbsns (talk|edits) said:

Well, it's just shy of 4:00 in Hawaii, So aloha to all and see you at TPT. It's posting as Jun 1 already.

It's still 11:33 here in Texas where Intuit resides.

Wiles (talk|edits) said:

Do you think Tim Doyle is standing in the Intuit server room right now wearing a paper hat, holding a glass of champagne in one hand and the power cord to the TA server in the other?

Or is he at home sleeping soundly...

Coddington (talk|edits) said:

Maybe they either shut it down Monday morning or tonight when it goes down nightly at 1:00 AM CDT?

I hate it when this happens. **They** promised us this thing would go away, today.

"...will be going offline permanently on 6/1/14" is what they said. And here we are...

Coddington (talk|edits) said:

Did it even go down for maintenance last night? I got caught up watching my alma mater go into extra innings in the NCAA baseball regional.

CathysTaxes (talk|edits) said:

Fsteincpa (talk|edits) said:

I figure they meant permanently as in whenever the hell we find the time to.

Actionbsns (talk|edits) said:

2 June 2014
I'm thinking they are using the Barbara Walters method of retirement. Try it a little, then come back. Try it a little more, then come back. BTW, they did go down last night for maintenance. By the time I check them from Hawaii, it's the middle of the night wherever they are, and they were "under maintenance".

Wiles (talk|edits) said:

2 June 2014
Maybe they will lift the ban on non-Trusted Users and let bots take it down.
