The other day I got an e-mail that indicated it was from IRS, telling me I have to renew my EA by January 31 because of the digits in my SSN. That part is true, although, I thought it expires in March, the date on my card. It also said I had to go to a website, and it was provided, to renew electronically and pay electronically. With all the weird mail and phishing scams out there, I just deleted it. Does anyone know, however, if we can only renew online now? Has the mailed letter regarding expiration dates been discontinued?

You can renew online now; the info is here: EA status irs.gov.

I know you're pretty comfortable posting here in the General Chat forum, Paula, but there are some good discussions about EA licensing/CE/renewal/etc. in the Practice Management forum these days, in case you're interested in that.

Thanks Trill - I think I am more curious as to whether others have gotten an e-mailed notice to renew. There are so many new e-mails being received because of our PTIN's and phishing schemes, I was surprised to get this information via an e-mail. I was already prepared to renew my EA this year. I checked the website, and renewal can be done electronically or via US Mail.
