I'm working on my first return that will be e-filed. In Lacerte I'm getting an e-file validation error message because I do not have at EFIN initialized. Is this the same as the ETIN I received from the IRS?

No, an EFIN is different from an ETIN. An EFIN has six digits and is the number you should have received from the IRS after you applied to efile tax returns.

I had trouble finding mine for a couple of seconds when I first got it Natalie. In the current E-File letters the ETIN is in the body of the letter from the service. The EFIN is on the top right hand side of the letter.
