Hello, I am a first time user and I want to know if anyone has used Drake Zero? It looks attractive for a low volume tax preparer. Is this web based software available for use after the tax season? I was told that it wasn't but it doesn't make sense. I prepare lots of previous years tax returns so it is very important for me.

How many returns do you do a year? That will help us provide you with better answers.

Have you considered a PPR package?

yes I have considered that option. But Drake Zero looks better as it would save $. But Sales rep said it is NOT available after the tax season. (although they also said that it is a new product and they weren't that familiar with it)It doesn't make sense that it wouldn't be available after the current tax year. Taxwise has a web based software it is accessible to prepare or amend tax returns even if we are into the future tax years.

Be careful to not be penny wise and pound foolish. As long as you do over 20 returns, most PPR packages will work nicely. At $25 to maybe $40 per return at most, these fees should be added to your bill.

Software is the last thing you wish to economize on.

But do you k,now the answer to my original question? Can I use the web based Drake Zero 2013 in TY 2014 if a client brings in two years or more of tax returns to file?

Thank you for your honesty. If anyone out there has used Drake Zero I would like to hear from you.

If the rep says it will not be available, that is the best you have to go on. Also, being a new product, there are likely to be glitches. I use Drake and it is very good for my practice. The pay-per-return is very reasonable. You should really consider that option.

Have you tried Intuit Tax Online? They have prior year versions available (I think going back to at least 2010) and it's available all year. I used it to prepare a few returns this year. It's based on the Lacerte platform but not nearly as robust. Of course it's also considerably cheaper than Lacerte. I'm not sure if it's a glitch but I was never charged for prior year returns.

Thank you everyone for your feed back. I am glad to have found this website. I only questioned the Drake Rep as she wasn't sure of the answer when I asked if Drake Zero would be available in future years when a client needs several years of tax returns prepared; sometimes new communications can lead to incorrect answers. I will check one more time with the Rep to confirm and then switch to Drakes pay per return if the answers are the same.

Thanks for the Intuit Tax Online referral however everyone in my support circle uses Drake. And since I'm already switching from Taxwise (terrible support)I plan to join the Drake circle. It's not a perfect software but sufficient for my needs.

If anyone out there has ever used Drake Zero I would still love to hear from You! It looks like a great idea for small practices.

Does anyone else see the humor in "ConniesKitty" or is it just me.

Yes you are correct! I didn't think the name would be visible on screen! Glad I didn't use the other one! Please tell me that you live in Montana and you aren't related to Joe Montana! Have a great day.

Ha Ha Ha! Not trying to hijack your thread. Anyways.

I haven't used Drake Zero but I'd be concerned if the company or rep selling it doesn't know much about the product. I'd wait.

I felt that way about Intuit Tax Online. I've been playing around with it since it first came out in 2009. I think they finally have a product that is up to par after 3 years.

Yes Tonymontana the online software isn't perfect yet but probably in the future. The rep did talk with her Director to get the information confirmed and I don't think it will work for me.

Anyhow, if you live in Montana I am jealous! I lived in Southern Oregon for 12 years and I love the mountains! Take care and thank you everyone for your feedback. This seems like a very good site for Tax Pros so I will check back often.
