Or other CPA's? I have a friend who is also a sole-proprietor CPA firm like I am. We want to maintain our own companies but we have toyed with the idea of splitting office space to save on costs. I dont think we would compete against each other, referrals is how we get most of our business. Does this sound odd or potentially a bad situation to anyone?

Assuming you don't end up wanting to kill each other, it could be good.

You would be amazed what you learn buzzing things off a colleague. Kinda like Tax Almanac except in person.

Especially if you have lots of kittens around.

This could work out better thank you think. It could be someone that you develop an affection for, and this would allow you the cover of business which could at the same time conceal a torrid, and continuing affair. Heh. Heh. I won't get into the sticky topic of sexual preference here, but in general (or generally speaking) you get the gist of what I'm saying. Whatever rings your bell, if it works out, it works out and so on.

It goes without saying that I have always been a strong (vocal and ouspoken) advocate of mixing business with pleasure. Life is short and the more pleasure the better.

Do Any of You Share Space with Other Professionals? Or other CPA's? Thus implying that CPAs are not professionals?

Nilodop, I meant share office space with other professionals like lawyers. I know a lawyer who rents an office on his floor to a CPA. He only wanted to rent to another attorney or CPA.

My doctor also works with another doctor, they are two separate entities, but they share the front desk admin, utilities, rent etc. They share do not share anything else except overhead costs. Im just wondering if a relationship like that works for CPA's.

I know lots of pros who do this, and I've done it, too (office share with a CPA), it's great. You save money and bounce ideas off one another. There's no competition, really. Unless the other person is a jerk for some reason, it's a great way to do business.

I share coffee space with a chiropractor and I take offense to anyone who calls me a professional.

I started sharing an office suite with an attorney just over 5 years ago. I am now on my 3rd different attorney in the suite, and this one is working out better than the first two. Finding a compatible working associate can be difficult.

coffee space, Fred? Not sure what that is. In a cup or mug?

Kevin, did you try the yellow box or has a itty bitty kitty done died? lol

Buddy of mine has the office next to mine in our building. We have a coffee/fridge/microwave/toaster oven area and he doesn't. Yes, I know others call it a kitchen. We call it the coffee/fridge/microwave/toaster oven area. He doesn't. He buys the coffee and shares our little area with us. Mutual clients will bounce back and forth. He has a ton of clients as do we, so the alignment <pun intended> doesn't necessarily need to be with a legal/finance type deal.

He used to have an office down the road and he had massage therapist working there. He doesn't have that now. I keep trying to get him to get them back, but he won't.
