| The IRS has rejected the extension I filed for a family business/individuals. The client called and found out I had used the incorrect name but right SSN. Is there any way for the IRS to accept their extension for the 1040? | |

| If the IRS already rejected the extension, I would get a power of attorney signed, and then call and speak to an agent. Perhaps they'll see the mistake, and allow the corrected extension to be back dated. What can it hurt? | |

| I agree. Talk to IRS until they agree. It might take a few tries. | |

| Can I use a name for SSN that is different from my visa?
I’m currently under my parents' e2 visa, but I might get my ssn during this summer. on my visa, it has my legal name from my country...but since my name was too hard for native speakers to pronounce, I went by an English name for long....I used that name for all my middle and high school year, so I want to keep using this name. Can I use different name to apply for SSN? If I can't, is there a way to change my name on visa, so I can put English name for SSN when I apply for it? Thanks. Have great day!

| Edgark, you have asked this question a number of times now, but in case no one has answered to your satisfaction I will address the issue.
In todays world, you would have to be a criminal, a terrorist, or crazy to apply for an SSN under a name other than your legal name. Doing so is illegal. Someone born in this country trying that would be suspected of attempted identity theft, and for someone not born here terrorism would be the first thought. If you don't like your legal name you can follow your state laws to change it once you reach the age of majority. Until then don't do anything which can wind up putting you on a government watch list, getting deported, or worse.
