| I've a client who lives in Sunrise,FL, but works in Jacksonville,FL. He rents an apartment in Jacksonville and returns home on Friday nite. I've told him nothing is a write off, i.e. mileage, rent. But, again, I'm second guessing myself. I've not come across this situation before. Any insite from 'my people' would be appreciated. (I just see this as trouble for the marriage.)

| Any chance it would qualify as a "temporary assignment" intended as, and actually, less than a year (thus pub 463)?

| THAT would have been good, but, unfortunately, it is a permanent position. Evidently jobs are scarce in the client's area and this job is 4 hrs. from home. I HOPE they move closer.....THEN we could have some moving deductions!! Thanks for your input!! This really is a good site. We all learn SO much here!

| You need to detemine what the tax home is, how long the assignment is for, etc. There have been some good discussions of this very thing the last few weeks. Never say never, always reserach the facts with your clients situation, of course you know that, I can just be very bossy. I would try the yellow box to the left and search for say "travel expenses', or "tax home". Again you will find some excellent discussions.

| I think your instincts are right. I would have a hard time granting his wish.
