This is a minor dispute in our office. Anyone know the right answer?
  • There are two sets of addresses listed for filing of paper returns.
  • A particular return must be paper-filed, so no use saying, "You should e-file."
  • The taxpayer will be responsible for the mailing of this professionally prepared return. The address difference is material -- different cities (St. Louis or Kansas City), not just different Zip+4 codes.

So, where should we tell the client to send the return, to the "Individual" address or to the "Tax Professional" address? I think the 1040, the 1040-V, and check all go to the tax professional address.

if signed by a paid preparer, it goes to the tax professional address...it has nothing to do with who drops it in the mail baox
