Have a client who signed return for elderly parent, parent is unable to sign 1040.

IRS sent back tax return, along with Form 2848. Return had no taxable income

How is POA signed by TP if TP is unable to sign. Is there an exception.

Is there a general durable power of attorney? Have attorney in fact sign 2848 & send copy of POA with 2848. -- Larry Hess, CPA | Albuquerque, NM | Talk to me

Can the parent sign with a mark--an X witnessed by two other people? That should do it. If that isn't possible, the parent should be in a conservatorship and the conservator can sign.
