In my local newspaper, there was an article about the stimulus payments, which I am trying to verify. The article said if the return was filed electronically and the IRS automatcally withdrew the balance due from your account, the economic stimulus payment will be automatically deposited in your account at the same time as if you had a refund automatically deposited into your account based on stimulus payment schedule of when the economic stimulus will be directly deposited into your account. Is this true?

It may depend on how the e-file software was programmed. My software has a box to check for direct deposit of refunds. We are supposed to check this box even if there is no tax refund and even if there is an EFT from the account by IRS. I believe IRS is trying to direct deposit the stimulus money if they know the info for the bank account. We are in uncharted territory here though as this is the first time this has been done this way.

Hello,

I'm not sure about the specifics of your question but I do have the schedule for stimulus payments from the IRS website. If all is going as planned with sending these payments out, you should have the answer to your question by the 16th!

<<<Economic stimulus payments will be issued according to the last two-digits of the main filer's Social Security number. For joint filers, the payments will go out based on the person listed first on the return. Payments will be made by either direct deposit or paper check, consistent with how people filed their 2007 tax return.

If you have questions after reading the below schedule of payments, please contact 1-800-829-1040.

People who use direct deposit also will be among the first to receive the payments starting April 28. Direct deposits will be made daily and completed by the date listed below:

DIRECT DEPOSIT

Last two SSN digits: Payments will be transmitted no later than:
00 through 20 May 2
21 through 75 May 9
76 through 99 May 16

Paper checks will also go out based on Social Security number. For Social Security numbers ending in 00 through 09, the paper checks will be mailed starting May 9 and will continue through May 16. A similar process will be repeated in the following weeks.

PAPER CHECK

Last two SSN digits: Payments will be mailed no later than:
00 through 09 May 16
10 through 18 May 23
19 through 25 May 30
26 through 38 June 6
39 through 51 June 13
52 through 63 June 20
64 through 75 June 27
76 through 87 July 4
88 through 99 July 11

People who file a return after April 15 will receive their economic stimulus payment, but probably later than the schedule shows. A return must be filed by October 15 in order to receive a stimulus payment this year.>>>

My mother-in-law, who didn't owe/or get refund (stimulus only return) got her stimulus payment, directly deposited last Friday (May 9).

I also paid throught EFT but I have not received any deposit as of yet. By SSN it should have gone in May 9th. I am now assuming that I will receive a paper check although my tax preparer assured me that it would be direct deposited. I have tried the online "Where's my rebate" tool to no avail. I knew that it would be to good to be true to get it last week. :o)
