I have a client who donated one week of timeshare use to a children's hospital. The client paid a maintenance fee of $670 for the week of use. The charitable organization gave him a receipt with a fmv of $2,500. My question is, is only the $670 deductible or the fmv of $2,500. Any guidance would help. Thanks in advance.

Nate, did you know that this has been answered before and that the little yellow search box would have helped you find the answer?

This is an example of an easy search: http://www.taxalmanac.org/index.php/Special:Search?search=time+share+donation

looking a little further down the page from that search you would find this: Discussion:Contribution of time share

There, now you are a search expert. That's all it takes.

Thanks, sorry for the redundant question. I was using key word search for non-cash donations. Never tried timeshare - duh? Thanks again

I used the search box yesterday quite successfully...and was shocked at what I found. The best answer was...get ready....MINE! So it was like me talking into the future to myself. Weird. But it was still the right answer. I need one of these to capture the rest of my life.
