I have been using LaCerte for 2 years now. It is expensive even if you pay by return. My client load is small so far - about 50 1040s, 1 1065, 2 C-Corps, 15 S-corps. I am not sure yet if I want to renew it or not. I like but do not love it. I really loved GoSystems RS when I used it years ago - but it is too much for my little practice. What do you all use and what is the avg do you pay? Thank you

Do a search in the yellow box to the left and you'll see that there has been a lot of discussion about various softwares and the high cost of LaCerte.

TaxAct is probably one of the least expensive for a small practice.

I have a similar practice to yours approx. 45 1040's, & 12 1120, 1120S, 1065, 1041, etc. I have been using ATX for the past 5 years. Prior to that I used Microvision Tax Relief that was sold to Ultratax. My main reason for switching was cost.

I strongly believe that all software programs accomplish 80 to 90% of their goal the balance need to have work arounds.

Cost/benefit ATX is an outstanding product.

I've been happy with ProSeries. The pay per return price is reasonable for a small practice and you can pick and choose what you want as unlimited. I do unlimited 1040 and 1120S but pay per return for 1120, 990, 1065 and states.

Used to use Proseries and Lacert, but the support sucked (Intuit). Been using ATX for a year now, and the support is awesome, and the software has every form for every state, and is fairly intuitive. About $1150 for unlimited everything including e-file. It's not perfect, but after using Lacert and Proseries, it kicks ass.

Check out TaxWorks...I like it and you can use PUP (Per Use Processing) until it makes sense to go unlimited. This will be my 5th year with it and I love it. I pass the cost on to my clients anyway (last year the cost was about $15/return) and I charged $25 through an invoice line item called "Software and Processing Fee." Not a word from any of my clients.

You might use our search block to check out discussions of ATX and Drake....type the names into the search block; I am sure if you type Proseries or Lacerte you will also find discussions about these too.
