I am a sole practitioner in the San Diego area. I have heard the sales pitches of the outsourcing organizations and it sounds like something that may be of interested to me. Of course, their view of their service is just a bit biased.

I would like to know if anyone has actually used one of these services and is willing to discuss the pros and cons and if they liked it or not.

All feedback would be appreciated.

LM,

I heard a company sureprep does this. Dont really understand how you can outsource US tax returns but I guess you can. It is definitely an interesting idea but how do you know if they are doing the returns correctly. You still would have to give a final look at the return.

Ok, take care and good luck...

Someone prepares return other then yourself. They may be outside contractors, in another city or in another country. Source documents are scanned into your computer and the outsourced preparer gets access to info and prepares returns. The return is then accessd by the signer of return for review prior to signing and send to client. Thats how it works.

Larry,

That may back fire on you if your client's personal data is disclosed during the interchange of information. From personal experience, you might as well as outsourcing to local contractors.

Larry, the issue of disclosure of client info., especially by California CPAs, has been discussed extensively on TaxTalk, a yahoogroup affiliated with CalCPA, and LTUG, also a yahoogroup, for Lacerte Tax prep. software users. -- Larry Hess, CPA, Albuquerque, NM - Talk to me

Outsource work to preparer down the hall. More control.

Outsourcing should only be done with full disclosure to the client.

Huge liability if the clients return is being done outside of your office. Better check with your E & O company too. I believe most people would bring their business elsewhere if they knew you were outsourcing.
