| My son owed a very large amount of federal tax and rather than him liquidating some securities I loaned him the money - did this by just writing a check on my MMA to US Treasury noting his name and ss# in the memo section. He included that check with his filed return. Filed 4-17-06. Still not cleared. Is there any problem with this or is the UST just that far behind.

| Doesn't sound like a problem yet. Hasn't been that long. To late now, but I always recommend to send returns with payment due by registered mail, so you have proof of delivery.

| Ditto on the proof of delivery. As for the check in your name, that certainly is not the problem.

| It shouldnt be a problem. But I have had clients do exactly what you did and the IRS will post it to the account of the checking account owner and not the intended person. It seems like the IRS would have to do a lot of extra work to screw it up like that but they occassionally do just that.

| Call IRS. They will let you know if received.
