Does anyone have any experience on paying the individual income tax by credit card? Is there a hefty charge by doing it this way?

Yes, taxpayer pays the processing fee. Follow the links from the IRS or state sites...all lead to the same place. I think it's 1.5% of the amount...

It should be noted that the California Franchise Tax Board allows you to pay California state income taxes directly from your bank account with no fees whatsoever. It's called WebPay and is available at http://www.ftb.ca.gov/online/webpay/index.html Not sure about the Employment Development Department or the Board of Equalization for payroll or sales taxes.
