I have a client whos son will be claimed on the parents return. Can I place the student loan interest on the parents return also? The 1098-E has the son's SS# on it.

Thanks...

I found the answer...

The son had income way over his filing status, so if the parents claim him, they cannot claim the student loan interest nor can the son.

If the parents are liable on the loan, the answer is yes.
