| Can you all give me and due dates for a 1) IRA and 2) SEP?
Thanks. | |

| And if you go on extension, October 15th for a SEP (not an IRA, though). | |

| Thanks for the info. I was questioning the IRS piece as well as I have heard the same. | |

| Almanacers,
If the taxpayer elects to put money into an IRA or a SEP, can they file the return and wait until the actual due dates to contribute or do they have to contribute before they file? Please advise. Thanks, Bj | |

| You can file your tax return before contributing to the IRA as long as they understand that April 15th is the due date to contribute, but I have always counseled my clients to not file if they haven't yet funded the SEP, and I've extended them until I hear that they are ready to fund it. Many times over the years a well intended client calls in September to say they won't be able to do it, and we have to revise the extended return (and the current year estimated taxes). | |
