An Scorp has payroll in CA,NY, NJ, IOWA and WA?

The whole presence and sales is in CA. Do we need to file for returns in these states??

I am doing this now with 10 states. I think because the employees created Nexus, there will have to be state filings for the states the employees were in.

Is there any way around this? Does any reciprocity come in to play here for neighboring states?

Each state is different and you need to check the rules. NY will take a different position than IOWA for sure but if it were me, I would not file S Corp returns in those states if no business was transacted (read sales). The use of interstate employees is common place and doesn't in and of itself give rise to Nexus; states differ on that but unless there is a definitive rule that requires an S Corp return to be filed, I would avoid it.

In case you ever need it, the postal code for Iowa is IA.
