| To report business mileage for business owners I normally fill out the worksheet that asks for make/model of vehicle..etc. which propagates the expense to line 9 (car and truck expense).
However, I have noticed on some new clients whoever did their previous taxes just figured the mileage and added it to line 27 (Other expenses). Is that okay to do? | |

| It's not technically correct, but as long as you are reporting the correct number, I wouldn't be too concerned about which line it goes on. The key thing is that you accurately describe the expense. I've seen returns prepared by others that had every expense listed in other expenses. It's not correct per the form instructions, but it still produces the correct answer. If some IRS agent gets upset about mileage being on line 27 rather than line 9, then let them waste their time moving numbers around on the return. It has no effect on the bottom line. | |
