| I used QB Premier Accountant's Edition 2005 through last tax season and started updating to 2007 after that. Now, I'm trying to connect to the FAM and my files have disappeared. Can't seem to get any response on QB discussions. Anyone have any idea what happened, apparently this is a common occurrence? | |

| I think you have to find your qb fam files.
Mine disappeared also. I also found out that if you are using vista that UAC needs to be turned on or it doesn't work either.

| I spent hours going through this with a client when they upgraded. Your FAM files are in one folder in the 2005 QBs file, and you need to make sure when you link them, you select that folder, not the individual files. I would highly recommend you call support for this one. They will walk you through it step by step. | |

| When I said I've looked everywhere, I do mean everywhere. I can find numerous FAM folders, FAM, FAM04 (never had QB 2004), FAM06 (never had QB2006), FAM07, but there only a few Clients anywhere with cryptic names. My client's FAM files are gone. Natalie, I appreciate the suggestion to call support, but you might recall my 'rant' on the deleted discussion. Calling support is virtually always useless, time-consuming and more aggravating than I can say. I'll either figure it out or give it up as I believe that others have also suggested that there is no fix. Just thought I bring it here and try. Thanks again. | |

| LJA, I had the same problem when I got a new computer and transferred all my files and applications. Your 2007 QB's will have the 2006 FAM NOT 2007. That's why you are seeing FAM 06 - that is the FAM file associated with QB's 2007. I copied a portion of the QB's Help below - it may explain it better than I can. Somehow you still need to reestablish the link to those files - I had to get my tech guy to help with that.
"Can I only transfer prior year data to QuickBooks Fixed Asset Manager? Yes. QuickBooks Fixed Asset Manager only transfers data from the prior year's version of ProSeries Fixed Asset Manager and QuickBooks Fixed Asset Manager, and the version of QuickBooks is one year ahead of ProSeries and QuickBooks Fixed Asset Manager. For example, QuickBooks Premier: Accountant Edition is given a version year based on the upcoming year, e.g., 2006. But the ProSeries and QuickBooks Fixed Asset Manager products are given a version year based on the tax year, e.g., 2005. That is why when you install the QuickBooks 2006 products, the QuickBooks Fixed Asset Manager 2005 product is included. The data you transfer to the 2005 Fixed Asset Manager product is the the client's 2004 data."

| Well, I won't hold that deletion against you, LJA.
The names of the folders are cryptic - they are numbers not company names or QBs file names. You need to find out which FAM folder was last used and the name of it. If you left your settings in the defaults, then you should look under programs/intuit/QBs (whatever version you were using)/Components/FAM (prior year for the version you are using). I'm not sure how well the Premier outlines the steps you have to take in order to re-link these files. There may be some detailed information on the QBs site. OR, you might try going into the last QBs version and creating a backup file and save it on your desktop and then do a restore. When you do this, however, you have to make sure you restore the entire folder. It's very different from the way files are usually selected -- if you go one click too far, you will get a message that the file does not exist or something like that. How many assets are we talking about anyway?
