My client is a real estate professional and wants to deduct his acne solution as a business expense. I guess he's got to look good in sales! I thinking maybe a medical expense subject to the limitation on the 1040, but I'm not sold on the business deduction.

What do you guys think?

OTC ProActive?

Dermatologist may be able to prescribe a treatment, but I think this is a bit much!!!

It is OTC Proactiv...

If it's a prescription, it's medical. Not a business expense.

Just how big are the zits we are talking about?

Maybe he is a 16 year old real estate mogul.

If you agree with DZ and company, duck after you tell him this.

He just needs to understand that if he is audited, he will not come out unblemished.

Tell client that you usually try to squeeze out as many deductions as possible. Let's face it, it appears to be above the table and arms length!

At least he is not claiming Viagra to be able to entertain customers.

Irsfixer (talk|edits) said:

But in the case of viagra, maybe the evidence will stand up under audit.

Call your preparer if your audit lasts longer than 4 hours.

OMG where do you all get so "witty"????

Now if I can say that during my audit tomorrow (alas we are all girls and don't use viagra), then I would likely get a bonus!!! hehehe

ok guys, you are having too much fun with this!!!!!!!

I do appreciate you input. Thank you for the help and, deathandtaxes, I will definitely move out of the way when I break the news. he.he.

Sorry irsfixer, but i never met the guy prior to the proactiv so it's hard to guage how big the zits originally were.

I had a children's dentist argue that a toupe was a business expense because young children were afraid of bald men!

I told him, 'if you were bald, I'd be afraid of you too.' He'd resemble Dr. Szell [you know, 'Is it safe' as he examined Dustin Hoffman's mouth]

Just tell the guy - personal hygiene is nothing more than personal hygiene. People do care what you may look like but the IRS does not allow tax deductions to make ones self pretty........

I have a Stripper who asked about deducting Breast Enlargement Surgery - now since they last

more than one-year - are they subject to "Double Declining Balance Depreciation" - but what about the "First Year Boner Depreciation"

Whew, yeah. Is it hot in here, or is it just me? Forget about these little "R" discussions we have -- I'm thinking about asking Tim to set up an entire "R" forum.

At least there is precedent for deducting breast enhancement as a business deduction....

Back to the original subject for a second...my daughter tried Proactiv, and it didn't even work!

Wish we had Proactiv when I was young. My acne was so bad that one time I fell asleep in the library, and when I woke up, a blind girl was trying to read my face. FACT!
