Just spent 2 hours with Intuit support - This morning I could not run Quickbooks Pro and could not print tax returns from Proseries. It said I needed to "update my license"

Tech suppport at Intuit told me it had something to do with the miscrosoft update last night Anyone else having this problem? I would think everyone using Microsoft would have this problem

An automatic update did download yesterday on my laptop and I had to reboot, but not update or verify my license. Any chance you upgraded your operating system from the original?

ProSeries fired up so far, guess I'll start up a return.

I did not update anything. And did not upgrade the computer. I would think everyone would be having this problem, so intuit said! Think I will be looking for new software next year

JR - when I opened proseries it said I needed to license my product! duh have been running the same product since January

Yeah, I'm ok here. I recall last year having a similar problem...with prior years, had to relicense each one separately. Real big pain.

No problems myself. I did a Windows update the other day.

Yup I tried to relicense, and I kept getting error code 4-0. Pretty scary when the Intuit tech is remotely in my computer for 2 hours and could not get it!!! finally she did

This just in:

Dear QuickBooks ProAdvisor,

We have discovered that a Windows update issued last night may be triggering problems for some users of the above-referenced versions of QuickBooks financial software.

When the problem occurs, the QuickBooks software does not open.

Common symptons include the following:

The QuickBooks splash screen flashes, and then goes away on launch. On launch of QuickBooks an error message says that the Web Connector has failed to initialize.

This issue is covered in the Knowledge Base item KBID 1009275. The KBID includes links to the Microsoft site for further assistance as needed.

Our response to this issue continues to develop and if we have new information to share after this Alert goes out, we will let you know at once.

Do Not Uninstall and Re-Install QuickBooks

This problem revolves around an issue with .NET. Uninstalling and re-installing QuickBooks does not address the problem and is not recommended.

Apologies for This Interruption

We know how valuable your time is, and that many of you are working intensely to meet the tax filing deadline. We apologize for this inconveninece but wanted to make sure you were aware of this issue potentially affecting you and your clients.

We will continue to rush you new information on this issue, as it becomes available.

Sincerely,

The QuickBooks ProAdvisor Team

JR1 you are too quick for me! I was just going to add the same post, but by the time I got to the end I see you already did it! Great job of keeping others informed!

Yes and this affected my Proseries also this morning. I could not print returns, because it kept saying I need to relicense, but I could not relicense. Wonder why nobody else here had the trouble with Proseries?

I run Drake tax software, and had no problem, but yep, I got to spend about 75 minutes with a new best friend in the Philipines (QB support) who was trying to fix my QB Premier 2008. Same issue; update blew framework.net which I am told is the foundation Quickbooks runs on.

Last night was the first night I shut down the computer in days.. just my luck it was the night of their nightmare Windows update!

This goes in the 'you can't win' category. Microsoft would be pilloried if they did not update, and now gets beaten up because it did. As I went to shut down last night, an upgrade was being installed, but Proseries is printing this morning.

There's a feature in the Microsoft automatic update that let's you decide when to update your computer. There were too many times I updated when something didn't work the way it had before, so now I look at all of the updates before I install them. I guess I'll wait a few days before I install this particular update.

I just received another email from Pro Series - it says not to install updates until after 4-15

I had the dreaded Error 4-0!! Don't waste your time trying to follow the on-line tutorials (unless you truely are a computer guru).

Call Intuit Tech Support (1-800-434-6818) and tell them you have Proseries and are getting the Error 4-0. They have been dealing with this issue 24/7 since last week. They will walk you through it so you are able to use your ProSeries and Quickbooks (the issue affects Quickbooks and ACT also) again. It took 30 minutes but VERY MUCH worth the time!! Still cannot get ACT to open...'
